2020.09.28 03:39 IncelAcademic Incels Reloaded: Rebranding Incels based on the core values of Social Justice.

/////Mods I've tried to post this before but it didn't get through, perhaps because my account wasn't old enough. Please inform me what I have to change if it gets removed again.////
In our society, Incels are seen as a joke at best, and morally depraved monsters at worst. It's one of the only minority groups that garners no sympathy from Academia, and the common man seems to have an innate loathing of Incels as a concept.
Strangely enough, both Academia and the common man are capable of a great deal of sympathy for other causes of Social Justice such as Black Lives Matter, even when members in that group engage in violence against innocent third parties.
What makes people care about Social Justice? We can assume that it's out of basic decency and caring about the well being of other human beings. That despite none of us choosing anything about the circumstances of our lives, we as a society can rationally bridge not only artificially created inequalities, but inequalities of circumstance. John Rawl's Theory of Justice is so compelling because we can instinctively understand how a society could be made more fair from the Original Position.
What about Incels? Did Incels want to be Incels? Did they choose it? If you were to ask a Sociologist if gang members are "evil" and "hate women and society", they would say that there are environmental reasons that made them the way they are. They're not born "evil", and in fact may be decent people, but the inequality of society and bad luck made them that way. There are causal factors that made them into gang members, and the gang members themselves are essentially victims.
Why is this same level of empathy not shown to Incels?
Of course any reason I give here cannot begin to cover this, but I believe this is a branding issue. Right now Incels are branded as White males who hate women and feel they have a right to women's bodies. That the Incel condition is primarily about the physical act of sex, and it's through sheer entitlement that Incels do not "pull themselves up by their bootstraps".
There are a few ideas I have to try and sway public opinion.
  1. Incels are People of Colour. Incels are hardly all White, and in fact race is an important aspect of the Incel condition, and there are many studies already about the disparities in interracial dating. This is where Intersectionality can come in to show that not only are these POC oppressed by the police and society, suffer from mental disorders such as depression, but they're also unable to create meaningful human connections because of the colour of their skin. This is a race issue, and a racism issue, something Academia would usually jump on.
  2. Mental Illness is an actual illness, like Cancer. There is a strong case to be made that depression is the worst disease that you can get. People don't hate people suffering from Schizophrenia, it's understood that they are on medication and are trying their best to live a normal life, but have some lapses that are out of their control. They are victims. Incels are likewise victims, but in many cases depression could be only a symptom of a much greater problem of social ostracization.
  3. The Incel condition is due to inequality. Put another way, regular people have privilege. Whether it is due to physical or mental conditions, Incels do not have the same advantages as everyone else. Poor people cannot simply, "pull themselves up by their boot straps", and neither can incels. We can talk about heritable psychological traits here as well from behavioural genetics.
  4. The Incel condition isn't(just), about sex. I'm sure you've all heard, "sex isn't that important", or "why do you care about sex so much/lots of people go without sex"? The main issue isn't sex, but intimacy and an emotional connection. It's wanting to care for, and be cared for by another person and finally feel like you belong somewhere in society. Maslow's hierarchy of needs can be useful here to demonstrate that Incels cannot progress emotionally without this.
The idea is to package all of this under the mainstream banner of empathy and decency towards others. By speaking the language of Academia such as Intersectionality, Environmental Inequality, Oppression, Privilege, etc, we can present the Incel condition to them in way that they can understand. Some of you may be opposed to this "Victim mentality", but this is simply the language used in current social theory.
Now there is no guarantee that this will work, but it could be the beginning of something. Right now the only academic papers on Incels are from the lens of Feminism who make the usual objections that I've mentioned above. The ground is ripe for a radical relook at Incel Theory and lead to more acceptance of Incels in society.
I've seen attempts "educate" the public before, but it only sounded like a crazy person ranting about incels. What we need is legitimacy.
As to how to go about doing this, I'm open to suggestions. I suspect that we will need an academic who is an incel or sympathetic to champion this, or some kind of Think Tank?
Please let me know what you think in the comments.

2020.09.19 11:54 pog99 Ryan Faulk distorts Segregation/Jim Crow.

See the original article and the garbage it inspired.
If you were to find the about page of his blog, you would know that he defends the blog from promoting white supremacy by simply reporting the facts. A strict reading could put together that it doesn't mean that one couldn't defend or rationalize past systems of white supremacy. I've recently revisited and clarified the issues of his Slave trade article, and soon I plan on talking about multiple issues with his slavery article as well, so today I will do the same with this one.
The running theme of the piece is that disparities during Jim Crow either couldn't be explained specifically by segregation, or that disparities came larger after the 1960s thus segregation as a factor is ruled out. The problems are that -
  1. For each aspect that he measures, he doesn't tie it to a specific expert claim on how Segregation played a role in the disparity.
  2. He doesn't account for post-1960s factors that causes the persisting or larger disparity, and assumes post-1960s is a systematically neutral control.
  3. For certain disparities he compares, they are inappropriate and are not indicative of what he purports.
And for the record, no, he doesn't actually talk about voting or juror restriction by race.
The article-
We first get a rationalization of his analysis.
When I was younger, I would read world atlases. And sometimes I would come to an article, say an article on the country Colombia, and it would say that Colombia is a world leader in coffee production, then list off some other “cash crops”. Then it would go into the growing textiles sector, and mention that it has some problem with debt. Maybe it’s a leading producer of phosphates as well or something. And if you read all of this qualitative, subjective description, you would never realize that Colombia was poor. It’s not until you got to “per capita GDP” that you would discover that it was $3,000 per capita.
You could also have someone qualitatively describe a football game between Auburn and Alabama. And they could do highlights, and describe some of the big plays, and you wouldn’t know that Alabama completely steamrolled Auburn until you looked at the box score.
Or imagine if your son was “describing” qualitatively and subjectively how he was doing in his classes. As a parent you don’t care, you want to see the damn grades.
And so the effects of segregation on blacks. What does the data say? Because in school when segregation is taught, it’s the equivalent of describing a football game by just looking at the highlights and not the box score. It’s cat-lady storytime.
Well, there are a few big go-to topics that popped into my mind to try to quantify the effects of segregation on blacks: cops and courts, schools, income and lynching. So that’s what I go-to’d.

1. Incarceration rate
The incarceration rate for blacks relative to whites has increased at least since 1930, probably long before that. So in terms of blacks being targeted for being sent to prison, it looks like they were substantially less targeted compared to today.
So if the legal systems were unfair during segregation, they appear to be even more unfair today. Or perhaps they weren’t unfair during segregation, are unfair today, or perhaps the laws are different today in a way that disparately impacts blacks more than they did in the past.
There are all sorts of things we can speculate, but it’s not immediately or obviously apparent, from the data, that the legal system was particularly keen on incarcerating blacks compared to today.
So for those of you more keen on race and mass incarceration, you would know that this is particularly strong in Northern Urban regions rather than the South. A whole demographic transition occurred that accounted for it.
Not to mention he never actually looked for studies that purport to address biases during Jim Crow. What does he find through is roundabout ways?
2. Prison sentences
For prison sentences, the numbers have been remarkably stable. When you look at length of prison terms for blacks compared to whites after the FIRST release from prison, it’s very close.
The first release data is important because none of these are repeat offenders. Repeat offenders get more time, and blacks are more likely to be repeat offenders.
That said, based on the data below, blacks serve roughly ~15% longer prison terms for their first term. It could be because the crimes blacks commit within each category are, on average, more severe. It could be racial bias on the part of judges.
Or it could be that blacks have worse courtroom behavior, as when IQ is controlled for, the racial gap in prison sentences goes away.
But what you don’t see is blacks having longer prison sentences during segregation.
Black Multiple of White Median Time Served For ALL Releases in State and Federal Prisons
Now what if we looked at median prison time served just in the South, and back in 1937 – smack in the middle of “Jim Crow” – and included repeat offenders, of which black inmates are a higher proportion today? The result is not that much different from the entire US today:
Black Multiple of White Median Time Served For ALL Releases in 14 Southern States in State and Federal Prisons
Remember, the 1937 data is JUST from the South, supposedly the hot seat of bigotry, and includes repeat offenders.
Homicide data is an unweighted average of each category. In 1937 and 1952 they used Murder and Manslaughter, in 1964 they just had Homicide, and in 2009 they had Murder, Negligent Manslaughter and Non-Negligent Manslaughter.
In case you think I am cherry-picking the years to paint a particular narrative, these are literally just the years used in the Bureau of Justice report I am citing.
And so what we can see is that the black-white incarceration gap is wider today than it was in 1930. In addition, the racial gap in sentence length for first offenders does not appear to have changed at all. Even the data that INCLUDED repeat offenders just in the South in 1937 doesn’t differ that much from the first-time offender data nationally and later.
And so this makes the idea that the current US legal system was more biased against blacks during segregation than it is today SEEM false.
So this is a good example of a data point that doesn't correspond to a specific Civil Rights claim for Jim Crow relative to the post-1960s. Mass incarceration is usually shown as being a post 1960s phenomenon of bias as a particular, in connection to Blacks increasing presence in the North. His source supports it. On page 88.
The median time served for the total was 17 days. For blacks the median was 2 days longer, 19 days. Interestingly, there were larger differences between whites and blacks in time served in the North than in the South. The median time served in the North for whites was 18 days and for blacks a full week longer, 25 days. In the South the median was 17 days for blacks and 16 days for whites. Looking at time served by offense, these differences continue.
Typical civil rights claims are in regard the lack of Black Jurors deals with not simply length of prison time but biases towards choosing conviction by a white jury relative to a comparable white defendant, which this doesn't study.
Therefore, the proper way how to study this would be conviction rates in the same region overtime, such as the South, and compared between different types of juries and defendants. I lack data on this, but one form of bias I have found was application of the death Penalty for rape in the South from the 1930s to the 1960s was harsher not just for Black Criminals, but for Black criminals accused ofraping whites. In further detail, 13% of Black rapists in 11 southern states received the death penalty compared to 2% of whites.
Decreases in overall non-white (likely black) executions, by his source, decreased sharply after the 1960s. Overtime, rates of executions decreased even though crime increased into this period. Mind you, there were death penalty changes around this time.
This source, btw, contains a variety of measurements by race during Jim Crow into the present that could suggest bias outside of merely prison sentences.

3. Lynching
A related topic to this is lynching. From Richard M. Perloff, Professor of Communication at Cleveland State University:
“Approximately 4,742 individuals were lynched between 1882 and 1968; of the victims, 3,445 or 73 percent were Black.”
All lynchings were in response to a claimed offense, such as a rape or stealing cattle. Blacks were 72.65% of all recorded lynchings while being ~26.87% of the population of the South at the time.
The Black population of the Southern US 1880-1970 averages 26.87% at each decade. And so based on their population alone, if lynchings were race-neutral, and we knew nothing about race differences in violent crime going in, we would expect 26.87% of all lynchings to be of blacks. Blacks comprised 72.65% of all lynchings, giving them a representation 2.70 times their population.
However, according to wikipedia, most lynchings occurred between 1882 and 1920, and during that time period the average black population was 31.76% of the southern US population. Using this number, blacks as a percentage of lynchings are only 2.29 times their percentage of the population.
If we split the difference and just say that the black population of the south was 29.32% of the total population, then blacks as a percentage of lynchings was 2.48 times their percentage of the population.
By comparison, in 2010, blacks comprised 12.6% of the total US population, but were 38.13% of the population charged for violent crimes, giving them a representation 3.03 times their population.
And so by raw numbers the lynch mobs appear to be slightly less racially targeting than the current US legal system is. Here are those numbers put in a table:
So when I first read this I thought he was comparing lynchings to police shootings. The second time shows me how asinine he is. This is a good example of an inappropriate comparison.
Being charged with a crime isn't the same as a lynching, lynchings are categorized by the source he originally used for sentencing as an execution, one of the trends that decreased in rates for blacks and as established was higher in the South in ways suggestive of bias.
From his source-
Almost three-fourths (73 percent) of those lynched between 1890 and 1962 (the date of the last recorded lynching) were black, and in the same period, 54 percent of those executed were nonwhite. About 90 percent of those dying under State authority were executed for homicide. Only 41 percent of illegal lynchings were for homicide (Tables 2-1 and 2-2).
This is more or less consistent with my studies showing that, in the South, rape (the next largest portion of lynching offenses After Homicide) was disproportionately applied to black men with death.
Lynchings, as well decreased in accordance with campaigning against it as established in my Dwight Murphey post. This would be an example of civil rights interacting with oppression.

4. Income
This is where arguments regarding the negative effects of segregation start to have some backing in data. Looking at census data from 1948, we can see that black income as a proportion of white income went from around 44% in 1948 to about 80% in 2000. This looks like a massive effect from desegregation on it’s face:
📷
However, there is some interesting data from 1880. If you just look within regions, the racial gap is much less. At that time, black workers earned on median 37% of what white workers earned. However, if you just looked at the south, blacks earned 58% of what white workers earned. So just with that regional control we’re already almost half way to the current black-white income ratio.
Population and wage income by race and region in 1880
But the paper did something else – it looked at black labor income relative to whites, but just looked a rural southern whites and blacks, and only looked at labor income. And in that instance, black income was 89% of white income:
📷
And so when you look at the same region, and the same kind of work, and just compare the wages of workers, the black-white income gap in the rural South was only 11%, lower than it is today. And that difference could very plausibly be due to blacks having fewer skills on average in 1880.
I would be interested to see similar thin slices just looking at urban blacks in the south vs. urban whites in the south, and urban blacks in the north to urban whites in the north. I suspect that the more you held constant region and urban/rural divide, the smaller the racial gap would be.
Which is to say, that it seems like much of the black-white income gap could have been a function of blacks living in rural areas (which were poorer back then) and living in the south (which was poorer back then).
In addition, we can see that the narrowing of the black-white income gap roughly corresponds with blacks moving out of the south. This is not a 1:1 correlation, but it is does suggest that simply moving out of the south), which began in earnest around 1910, is part of the explanation for the narrowing of the black-white income gap:
📷
And in the north, where more of the blacks were slaves who had earned their freedom before 1865, black wages as a proportion of white wages were higher. In fact blacks in the north were wealthier than whites in the south for quite some time.
Moreover, the narrowing of the black-white income gap at the national level occurred almost entirely during segregation. So to say that the smaller amount of narrowing that occurred following desegregation was in fact a result of desegregation is something that sounds kinda plausible – there’s certainly a little story you can tell – but there’s very little data for it. The most you could say is that there was a brief acceleration of the narrowing of the black-white income gap immediately after 1965, but that could be a coincidence, and even if you want to say it was a result of the civil rights act, then the acceleration versus a continuation of the previous trend is still only going to be like 2%.
Now as for why the black-white income gap narrowed from 1948 (at least) to 2000, that’s another topic. I suspect much of it has to do with the economic rise of the south and the migration of blacks away from the rural economy. Also this higher income may not have corresponded with a rise in living standards relative to whites since the cost of living may have increased, but that’s more speculative. But desegregation doesn’t appear to have any relevance to it.
So even the narrowing of the black-white income gap, long touted as prime evidence that segregation was previously suppressing black wages, the evidence is not so clear on that.
So, he decreased the gap however in a way that was not applied to the modern gap, therefore makes his comparison null.
He spends most of this section explaining factors pertaining to geography and the like explaining the gap, even though it's existence is tied to both slavery and the economic and educational limitations of the South for Blacks. This can be seen in the lack of second generation benefits of white migrants relative to black migrants, those born in the North being positively selected for those returning to the South, and the steeper reduction in poverty among southern Blacks due to migrants that returned to the South.
Likewise, despite his claims that Northern Blacks being richer than Southern Whites, he doesn't produce a chart or study showing that.
5. Wealth and Employment
Two more things to consider is that up until the 1950’s blacks had employment rates similar to that of whites. And the unemployment rate in blacks grew much more after 1965:
📷
And in terms of wealth, black wealth as a proportion of white wealth has remained stagnant since 1963:
Moreover, I would say that the absolute disparity is more important than the black-white ratio. Because lets say you have $10 and Bob has $100. That’s a $90 gap. Depending on your job, that’s a day’s wage, or half a day’s wage. Now if you have $100 and Bob has $900, now you’re looking at multiple days’ wage. And so on and so on. So even though the relation is the same, the practical importance of the gap is growing. Also just the total dollar amount difference is increasing. And these are all in “2013 dollars”, which adjusts for inflation.
And so when people say that the relative economic situation of blacks has improved relative to whites since segregation, they’re looking at one thing: nominal income at the national level. They’re not looking at employment, at wealth, or how much, if at all, the income gap has narrowed when controlling for what region of the country we’re looking at, or if it’s urban or rural.
While this is worth pointing out, it fails to account for complex factors of the great migration. While gains were present, unemployment increased due to urban living and relatively higher demands in skill compared to the South. This can be seen by actually referencing the study he pulls the chart from, where changes in unemployment occur earlier and become starker outside of the South.
What is also interesting his how an earlier study done by one of the researchers of the 1999 study he cites notes how human capital can't explain as much of the gap in the North as it can in the South.
6. Schools
Another argument that segregation depressed black economic success is their lower school funding. On average, from 1890 to 1950, the average of how much each state spent on black schools as a proportion of what they spent on white schools was 56.96%. So they had less funding.
But funding for what? For “better teachers”? What’s a “better teacher”? What has been found in the US is that increased real spending on schools has not increased overall performance since the 1970s, and more importantly voucher studies have shown that the school an individual goes to has no real impact on either GPA, standardized test scores or future college attendance.
So the fact that additional funding didn’t matter in 1970 is one thing. But did it matter from 1870 to 1954?
Well, we don’t have regular standardized tests from that time period, but we do have a nationally representative IQ test done in 1917 for all US army conscripts for World War 1. In it blacks scored a median of 83 compared to the white score that was set to 100. Today the black median is still at 85. Okay, two points. And my guess is they were hollow for “g” anyway.
Certainly there were journalists at the time who did “investigative journalism” and wrote anecdotal reports of how bad the black schools were. Michael Moore does “investigative journalism” today too about how great the Cuban healthcare system is. Walter Duranty visited the USSR in the 1930s and came back writing glowing reviews of the benevolent, if firm, policies of Stalin.
Maybe they were telling the truth, maybe they were making things up, who knows.
Black schools were probably worse But the question is how much worse really? And for most people, did it even matter? Most of what people learn in school they forget anyway, so aside from literacy and basic math, the practical importance of school would be minimal for most people at that time.
And the culture of school credentials as a signal to employers hadn’t developed yet, so at the time any “educational disadvantages” blacks had, whatever they were and if any, would not matter in terms of credential-signaling because that hadn’t developed yet, and in terms of knowledge beyond basic literacy and math – that all gets forgotten anyway.
So....lets review.
  1. He could've mentioned the Coleman Report but didn't. This is a pretty major study in this particular field of social science, so for Faulk to miss something crucial to grounding his point only demonstrates his lack of familiarity with the material.
  2. I'm going to to assume, since the link is dead, that the studies referenced in that link doesn't account for how money is spent.
  3. His study cites work from a cosumer behavior course, not actual studies on schools.
  4. A recent study shows that for Jim Crow, school quality accounts for the majority of the wage gap for the era.
  5. Actual tracking of changes in school quality supports the conclusion.
  6. Previous data given regarding the Great Migration would indicate that education and a market to use it made generational different for blacks, even considering selection.
7. Countrymen?
This section is a bit of a digression. In a broader sense, blacks weren’t seen as legitimate countrymen to some extent for some time in the region. And so since the blacks were viewed as “foreigners” to southern whites, who to some extent viewed northern whites as foreigners as well, they didn’t think they owed the blacks equal school funding any more than they owed people from Peru or Romania or China equal school funding.
I.e. the black-white gap in school funding meant as much to them as the american-chinese gap in school funding, as both the Chinese and the blacks were foreign to the southern whites.
Now you can have whatever opinion you want about it, and say that blacks were rightful countrymen of southern whites, and really pound your fists in self-righteous certainty about it because you “know it to be true”. That’s certainly your viewpoint.
But understand that it is just your viewpoint, and when you realize that the southern whites viewed blacks the way we look at illegal immigrants today, and that the times during which either repatriation of blacks to Africa or creating a separate black country out of land in the US were serious proposals were still in living memory at the time.
Today blacks have been part of the US for so long that such proposals probably seem bizarre to you. And they would bizarre and cruel if implemented today. But also remember that the US had to impose military governments in the south in order to pass the 14th amendment that gave the blacks citizenship. And Oregon, New Jersey and Ohio renounced their ratification of the 14th amendment after the fact in protest of this action.
Obviously is was a symbolic gesture, but it showed that opposition to the way the 14th amendment was passed wasn’t considered some kooky fringe idea at the time. Of course it is now because if you bring up the use of military governments in passing the 14th amendment – well, “only racists talk about that”, so it just gets dismissed.
But yes, understand that the 14th amendment was seen like granting “amnesty” to the illegals is today – it would be creating an alternative method of granting citizenship for a specific group of non-citizens in the US today.
(And the fact that more whites supported granting citizenship to the black slaves at the time than supporting granting amnesty to illegals today is support for a theory I have about whites in the past being more “neurologically left-wing” even if they would be considered today to hold “far-right” positions by today’s standards.)
  1. Despite whatever perceptions American whites had about Americans blacks, it doesn't change the facts were that blacks were not comparable to the Chinese at the time. The cultural gaps and their economic history on a racial basis doesn't justify it.
  2. The basis of historical relativism in this case was seeming argued further in his MLK video, now deleted. That is, as argued by others before, whites didn't have to pay taxes for Black schools. This causes obvious problems as the average black had only limited wealth to tax in large part due to limited skills.
Faulk's self prophesied Conclusion-
So, what do we learn from his conclusions? He bizarrely begins with a tangent on the Zimmerman and Wilson trials and the correlated of media knowledge.
Some excerpts.
The jurors certainly knew more facts about each case than the general public did. Moreover, whites are more likely to believe Zimmerman and Wilson were justified, and whites do better on tests of current events knowledge. In addition, males, who do better on current events knowledge tests than females, also were more satisfied with the Zimmerman verdict than women, and women do worse on current events knowledge tests. Also, people with higher education levels approved the verdict as well.
Thus, all three factors that correlate with general political and current events knowledge (being white, being male and having lots of time in school) also correlate with approving the Zimmerman trial verdict. And the people who had the MOST knowledge – the jurors – unanimously found Zimmerman not guilty.
If you go by the literature in news media talking about “institutional racism” and “white privilege”, it’s not immediately obvious that the aggregate of all media is any less obsessed with the plight of the coloreds than they were in 1964. Maybe they were, but I have no way to really tell.
Do you see it? Do you see that lack of any real transition? Maybe some further comment can help.
But lets say Derrick Wilson killed “the gentle giant” in 1961. There was no internet in 1961, what you knew about the events was what a few major news outlets chose to report. As it happens, a jury also found J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant not guilty of murder in their killing of Emmett Till. And what do you know about that event? Do the facts you know of the Emmett Till verdict seem to paint a one-sided story to where it is unbelievable, yes, unbelievable that a jury would find Bryant and Milam not guilty?
Once again we have a comparison that isn't proper. The modern day examples leaves no ambiguity as to who killed who, it was a matter of whether the killing was justified or not.
The Emmett Till situation was vastly different, since the matter of whether or not Till was killed, whether or not Milam and Bryant were guilty, or exactly what happened between Till and Bryant in the store. Her own account only goes as far as to say that she was grabbed by the waist, while press releases by the defense/police was explicitly more violent. Both stories differ from her original account to her lawyers. Even the officer who initially believed that the body belonged to Till changed his mind when the town's reputation began to be tarnished.
Furthermore, even if we are to treat the Till case like the modern day examples, it only shows the hairiness of the case itself. Despite the defense being that Till is not confirmed dead, and that the brothers were innocent of murder, part of their defense regarding Till's actions and the release of Louis Till's rape record by politicians shows a blatant message. That even if the brothers killed Till, it was justified despite nonetheless being illegal.
Anyone, however, can read the various sources that talks about the issue at length. Personally I have Devery Anderson's most recent book.
Because we all know that the courts in the South were incredibly unfair to the blacks? Except there’s no real data to support that at the time,
In regards to death penalties, legal and illegal, for interracial rape, we do. This is supported, along with the data, In regards to changing testimonies in the case of Till, from the police, we do. From the fact that shortly afterward another white on black murder with a white witness (and multiple black ones) claiming otherwise. Said white was not only a friend of the defendants of the Till case, but was defended by the same officer who doubted the corpse's identity.
Point is that an entire survey of the south as a premise of bias is unnecessary (though supportive) of bias. The specific town where the crime took place has plenty of evidence of bias during the trial stemming from community values.
and victim surveys from modern times correspond with the police arrest rates, and police are more likely to kill a white person in any given arrest situation, are more likely to shoot blacks in simulations, and the black percentage of killing cops is higher than their percentage of being killed by cops. And in fact the black incarceration rate relative to whites is HIGHER than it was during segregation.
Irrelevant to the context of Till, a circumstance so legally unique from the above examples it shows Faulk's ignorance. The only connection is the matter of white credibility in modern settings verses in the context of a particular case.
As shown in previous articles, modern “institutional racism” in terms of police and court bias, callbacksand educational opportunities are very easily revealed to be phantasms – or at the very least the issue of whether or not they exist is much more complex than the basic statistics you hear on tumblr and huffpo posts would suggest.
Both articles are shitty, see United Left on the school vouchers argument.
Recent studies have shown that residential racial segregation has increased in the United States. This is an improvement over older studies which simply looked at cities and the percentage of each race in the cities. These newer methods actually look at the likelihood of you having a neighbor of a different race, and find that racial segregation is increasing.
So it's basically comparing two different types of "segregation", the conventional method comparing pre-1960s trends nonetheless decreasing.
We already know that schools are more segregated than they were during the late 1960s. Now this is a profound thing; you’ve been to school. You had first hand experience with how racially segregated they were. THAT was close to what it was like during Jim Crow that we hear so many stories about. So… how segregated did it seem?
Again, misleading headline.
In other places on this site, Sean and I make arguments about how currently, blacks and hispanics are not getting a raw deal in employment, courts or education. But what surprised me was just how much, looking into the past, the old days seem so similar to today in terms of the lot of blacks compared to whites.
They are drawn parallel. The past is not far away, it’s right here. 60 years ago was yesterday.
Only your superficial understanding of the 1960s, or any decade before.

2020.08.11 19:22 BlazingNailsMcGee I've been seeing a lot of posts from butthurt guys stating Indian girls prefer white guys and its colorist but its true for Indian guys too. Why cant we accept its a cultural thing/dating preference?

Few points to sum up my argument:
-SouthEast Asians in general have a thing with white skin, similar to how western countries have a thing for tan skin. Its a hard to attain standard that makes it desirable.
-There is controversy among the black community how black guys have a preference forlightskinned black women over dark skinned black women, as well.
-The longevity of a relationship is based on personality rather than solely on looks.
-Applies to GUYS and girls from SE Asia who prefer white people.
- I.e. all the Indian matchmaking uproar about light skinned preference, general arrangedmarriage ads in the news paper ads for "fair, slim, trim" etc.
-I do feel for asian guys (mainly indian guys) ever since the emergence of the "bobs and vagine"meme but I know it stems from reality. Can't judge many for the actions of few.
In conclusion, Ive seen way too many posts and comments from Indian/asian guys saying how women of their ethnic background/race prefer white guys but what about all the indian/asian guys dating white women? Or non CIS relationships that are interracial. I don't believe that dating preferences should have gatekeeping (fetishes, yes but not a preference).
Edit: I have a feeling I'm being downvoted by people with this specific mindset. I am not saying that it is a bad preference, just like being a "chubby chaser" isn't bad, its just a preference. I just wish people wouldn't take the rejection so personally.
Also, colorism is a problem and only once we recognize it can we move forward from it and actively work against it. I also have insecurities being a young SE asian woman.
Edit 2: All the sexist DMs Im getting calling me a "Poojet", "bed wench" and "race traitor" from butthurt guys is the reason why these guys aren't getting any attention from women. Work on your attitude.

2020.07.24 18:55 confessamurder 1.2 The Slasher Challenge

[The participants, still surprised over last week’s non-elimination, enter the room.]
[BC]: Congratulations, Simone! How does it feel to be the very first winner of MurderHaus?
[SIMONE]: It was a lovely surprise! I honestly didn't expect to have any wins, and be more middle-of-the-road.
[DAN]: A story like that, you definitely deserve it!
[TWO]: Yes, congrats, Simone! *chuckles* I’m coming for you.
[Simone darts a sideways glance to Two, but whatever is on the front of her mind, she lets it go with a sigh.]
[TWO]: Anyway, I was hoping to choose Slasher or Creature Feature if I had won. I feel like gothic horror and dark fantasy are too similar.
[BEE]: Creature Feature would have been my choice. I love writing about monsters.
[TWO]: Slasher was a great choice. What I love about this prompt is that we’re almost expected to use tropes and clichés. It’s something that we almost always try to avoid, so it’ll be fun to see all of us put a spin on something that’s…
[Two whips out a small and black oblong case and opens it. He puts on a pair of sunglasses over his eyes and smiles wide]
[TWO]: ...been done to death.
[THE SUEN]: I love clichés.
***
THE PROMPT
The Slasher sub genre first came to huge prominence in horror in the late 1970s and early 1980s, a time period in which has also come to be known as the Golden Age of Horror. Three films most often credited with the slasher’s modern success of this period are John Carpenter’s Halloween, Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Sean S. Cunningham’s Friday the 13th. Although the slasher was not brand new to horror during this time, it is due to these three films which have inspired and spawned countless slasher stories and helped catapult horror films into more mainstream success.
However, it was actually the 1974 film Black Christmas that introduced the Slasher’s trends, with its featured point-of-view shots from the killer’s perspective, threatening phone calls made from inside the house, and which specifically focused around holidays or specific dates--all directive tools which would be used by many slasher films to come.
In literature, slasher stories have been around since as early as 1939 with the debut of the mystery thriller And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, a story set in an isolated location with a psychopathic killer murdering their victims. In truth, the slasher sub genre thrives best in film, albeit with the success of past authors’ stories having been adapted into successful and entertaining movies.
The most popular tropes (i.e. well-known) given rise in horror have originated from the slasher genre, ranging from “The Virgin Always Survives” to “The Supernatural Stalker”, to the use of unconventional weapons and methods of killing. Interesting enough, rarely a slasher film will feature the use of a gun by the Killer. The Killer also has a backstory which often explains how they developed their violent mental state and why they focus on a particular type of victim, location, and brunt use of melee weapons.
Elements of the Slasher tend towards a formulaic set-up, featuring the murdering of teenagers involved in sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll--all meant to attempt to provide a moral lesson for the modern teenager that being involved with any of those things meant death and suffering. While more neo-modern slasher films have evolved in creativity, the slasher itself has primarily remained true to its core, often featuring tributes and elements of the Golden Age slasher films.
In general, the Slasher story includes these elements:
Further examples of Slashers in film and literature:
Your Turn
🔪
Write a short story in the slasher subgenre, while incorporating some, most, or all of the elements featured in these types of stories. Your story should incorporate a Killer focused on a specific demographic or person involved in their past, while also featuring at least 2-4 murders. Word count maximum: 2700
...
THE STORIES AND CRITIQUES
(Critiques presented here are a more condensed or edited version of the original critiques the participants were originally given.)
ANNA BELLAMY
After your last submission, I was eager to see what you would do with the Slasher. While you are an excellent writer, you came up against time and you submitted an incomplete piece. I would have loved to see how it ended.
What I did get to read, comes across as dark fantasy crossed with what I hope would incorporate more of the Slasher motifs. You did a great job setting up the environment and maintaining consistent tone throughout.
Should you continue with us, I truly hope you will be able to manage your writing so that you can submit a full piece and so that I can experience the full enjoyment of your stories.
BC MARSDEN
I was really looking forward to what you would be bringing to this challenge. Your last piece was unconventional and frantic, and in your Slasher piece, you keep the trend going. Personally, I really enjoy your writing voice and the way you are able to tell a strange story.
While your next entry is well-written (with only minimal errors), the tone of your Slasher seems inappropriate to the subgenre. As I read through your piece I kept asking, "Where is the Killer?" I was a bit hard-pressed in learning your killer appears at the near-end and off-handedly murders a random elderly couple when you had plenty of characters within your story already that your killer could systematically kill one-by-one.
Your initial set up also seemed dense and too philosophical for a usual Slasher, and I had wondered if maybe you crossed it with Cosmic Horror somehow, but as I continued to read, I saw there was virtually no suspense. Instead, you chose humor and it turned whatever horror you were intending into a piece of apocalyptic/dystopian science-fiction. Unfortunately, your submission does not meet the prompt's criteria this time around.
If you stay with us, my advice is to be more mindful of the genre and prompt details. I give you all a lot of wiggle room to interpret the genre as you see fit, but this one was too off the mark.
BEE
You continue a good streak of storytelling with The Final Girl. While the general idea of incorporating horror archetypes à la "Cabin in the Woods" makes the story more intriguing, overall, it's not the most out-of-the-box. I will hand it to you that The Final Girl reveal twist really excited me, the ending comes across as rushed or out of nowhere. I think had you spent more time on the Mayor's point of view, or maintained that the Witch continues her reign of terror for another cycle, it would've made the ending make a bit more sense.
Speaking of the Mayor, offering the Mayor's point-of-view as "You" was a storytelling risk that I'm not sure paid off. It came across as a Choose Your Own Adventure book inside of a third-person point of view. I would suggest possibly changing this to match the rest of your story, as it was a little confusing to suddenly be reading, "You edge closer to the tents…"
As an upside to all of this, your sentence styling and description are tight. In the areas of technical skills, without a doubt you have a powerful mastery of grammar, sentence fluency, and spelling. Unless you're having a bad day, I don't think I need to cover this as a critique each time. I know in my mind I have been thinking, "Bee really does know how to write."
CLAUDETTE BOUCHARD
Your approach to the Slasher genre with this piece is fresh and unordinary--definitely not what was expected. You were able to deliver a complete story with diary entries alone, which speaks to your ability to write an effective piece with such an active voice.
While there may be some fragments here and there, it can be easily overlooked due to the fact that your intention was to purposefully write from the perspective of someone who sounds younger and inexperienced, but still delivering what I asked for: a Slasher fic.
I'm not sure if last week was maybe just a bad week for you, but I'm really glad to see that this week's story contains a tighter narrative with most, if not all, the necessary requirements of a Slasher. That being said, what I really wish you would've done with this story is to tie in the ex-fiancé more, as he is the basis for Sarah to spin wildly out of control and descend into gleeful, murderous insanity.
My only complaint is how too random Lance's appearance was, as I was expecting Frank to reappear somewhere, to either take revenge on Sarah, or for Sarah to finish the job she started on him. Because of the last diary entry, the ending of the story really falls a bit flat and a little unsatisfying. Had you incorporated some extra hints about Lance throughout, or simply put Frank in his place instead, the story as a whole would have had a larger impact, and ultimately, the ending would be much more palatable.
However, you were able to describe a descent into madness without going too overboard with it or making it look out-of-place. It's becoming clear that you have a knack of showing the reader how much something is "not quite right."
My advice as a companion to your current success this week is to eliminate the randomness of dropping characters or ideas into your stories, and focus on incorporating your ideas more seamlessly. A way you could do this is by dropping hints somehow, or gradually building up towards those ideas so they don't come across as lacking aim or direction.
DAN JAMES
This week, I'm glad to see you making an honest effort in applying last week's critiques. The only thing is, is that you replaced your periods with semicolons, and that usage of grammar was often misused and helped to create a story full of run-on sentences.
One other thing is there is a lot of telling versus showing; for a truly immersive piece to pop off the page, it's best to provide information through senses, actions, emotional displays, and which doesn't just tell the reader, "He was panicked." One of the best ways you can do this is to stop using adverbs where you could show instead.
As far as the story goes as a whole, your stories will read much stronger if you can work hard on improving your technical skills and finding ways to show, not tell.
Practice, practice, practice, and don't hold yourself back from asking for feedback from others.
GREAN
I really like your approach of creating a great “You’re Next” -type style story combined with the use of modern technology. You were able to keep the reader guessing, and you did a fine job in creating more show, not tell moments than your last piece. Live Streaming is something the modern world knows about and there have been headlines about violence and murder during Live Streams, which makes this submission highly relevant. I also really liked seeing your interpretation of the dark side of technology and social media.
Your story reads rather densely which makes part of your story long-winded. There are places in which a paragraph could have been broken up because you changed the subject midway. I think if you’re focused on maintaining a five-sentence minimum into a paragraph, to give more variety in sentence length to keep the reader more engaged and feeling like they’re making easy progress.
Your ending is confusing, and you did warn me about that. Although it could use some refining, I honestly like the unexpected ending of them breaking down together and leaving us pondering on what is going to happen next.
As far as the story goes, of all the submissions, yours reads like something that would be made into a movie. I literally kept envisioning these scenes as if they were playing out on a movie screen, so on the subject of your vivid details and description, it comes with a superb job well done.
MAG DISSA
For all intents and purposes, using highly popular and beloved Disney/Pixar characters as nasty, raunchy, swearing, murderous characters just didn't mix well with the Slasher genre. I couldn't help but insert the toy version of the characters into the story, which disconnected me. The juxtaposition of toy cartoon characters on a Slasher confused me because I wasn't sure whether or not it was intended as a serious piece of prose or if it was intended to be over-the-top and campy.
When you're using existing characters from another franchise, you have to do your very best in captivating their personalities as close as possible--and none of the characters presented actually came across as who they're supposed to be. Had you simply just changed their names, I would've never known that this was a Toy Story fanfiction/horror crossover.
For the good aspects of your story, the narrative is vicious and you go for the throat--literally. Revenge is a subcategory of Slasher and I think you executed the spirit of the genre very well, even if the Toy Story characters threw the story off.
SIMONE LE ROUX
What I have come to absolutely love about your writing so far is that you are able to take a prompt and exceed expectations with a great story. Last week's "Loveliest Corpse" was a surreal nightmare; "The Caretakers" goes beyond the surreal and taps into current events plaguing the U.S. And, with South Africa's history of racial segregation and white privilege, your story comes across as relevant and current.
I am not going to beat around the bush: your story had me on edge the whole way through. Your Slasher incorporated "revenge"; but it would be more accurate to describe it as a Social Horror cross-genre that echoes the sentiments of the Haitian Revolt in which southern U.S. slave owners feared would come to pass: black people revolting and killing them in their sleep or worse (*gasp!* interracial relationships!).
My only gripe with your story is that you didn't name any of your characters Karen, but I won't take any points from you for that.
Moving forward, I am very eager to see what else you have in that writing arsenal of yours.
I do want to suggest that you watch your dialogue carefully, however. Sometimes, the characters say things that people wouldn't normally say in a real-life conversation, even if there are blades and blood around. I might suggest reading your dialogue out loud to yourself so that you can determine whether the dialogue feels natural or awkward.
THE SUEN
(Trigger Alert--topics of pedophilia and rape)
I want to congratulate you on a piece of writing well-done and in your ability to set and maintain the tone and pace of the story from the get-go. It was gut-punching, triggering, and savage--exactly how great horror can be written. You took a HUGE risk with the subject material and it's been well-received.
I know you slimmed this piece down some already, but I can see in some places where some extra "pork" could be cut out to deliver the shocks you're giving us with greater force. I admit, in some places, it seems long-winded or overly drawn out, as if maybe you were worried about not making the limit or not getting your description across--but, your description was great, grisly, and unnerving.
Unfortunately, this is where the other shoe drops, because it doesn't read or translate as a Slasher. Your "death by sex" aspect of your story had a great expression, but that's where it stops at being Slasher and it starts being more supernatural/ghost story, up in the same ballpark as Ju-on or Sinister. It's a shame, because had this piece been submitted for a Supernatural Horror prompt, you would've easily made Top3 and/or won the challenge, hands down.
My advice--should you continue with us--is to read and incorporate the genre's characteristics more mindfully.
TWO_SENTENCE_CRITIC
As far as this submission goes for genres, this was a successful Slasher, and I enjoyed how you were able to subvert the "death by sex" into "death by not having or not being able to have sex." At first, I was apprehensive as you approached the ending twist with Sister Christina's admission of being born into a man's body, as the subject of transgender and transsexual identities is currently a hot-button topic (great for horror!), and you seem to have handled the topic somewhat sensitively and progressively.
One of my favorite quotes you wrote was,
“What your mother and sister did to you was wrong but a penis is not the only thing that makes you a man. You don’t need it to make a woman feel good either, sexually or otherwise.”
I feel this ends your story with a flair of empowerment, rather than total villainization or chalking it up to "mutilated penis means psycho killer." But I'm going to be a bit real here: while I love this about your story, my least favorite aspect of it is that your villain is "an angry misgendered person" (even if it was against their will). The villainization of LGBT individuals is all too common in stories across the spectrum of genres in a heteronormative world. However, this isn't to say that you shouldn't include topics like these, but living in a current world that is historically hostile towards trans people, I think this is as good as time as any to change the way we see trans lives by not villainizing them.
Let’s talk a bit more specifically about some choices included in your piece:
Samantha worriedly asked, “is oral sex was the same as losing my virginity?”
...
He glimpsed her discreetly crossed fingers behind her back.
...
The attack lasted less than two minutes.
...
A look of complete shock covered his face.
What all of these things have in common is telling rather than showing, and while some of it seems to be there for more dramatic effect, I found that the biggest culprit is the use of adverbs in your sentences in place of description that you could've shown instead, or some of what you wrote seemed a little unnecessary in the details such as:
Sister Christina informed her it was not, but questioned why anyone would want to put their mouth on the area from which someone urinates.
So, my advice is to resist the urge of using adverbs in place of where you could show instead. Unpack the sentence a bit more and show us how that person seems to feel worried (i.e. they have a nervous habit, e.g. biting nails or pacing around).
The hardest part in writing is striking a balance of description without being too wordy, and most of your piece does this, so don't take me as going in hard on you for this too much. In general, your story is easy to read and leaves you guessing, which to me is super important in any work of fiction.
The way in which you ended your story seems appropriate to the subject matter and all of our questions have been answered, leaving us with a "What happens next?" scenario.

THE PLACEMENTS
[CONFESSA]: Based on this week’s critiques, I’ve made some decisions. It was very hard, as there were some very high peaks and very low valleys. Regardless of whether you are eliminated today, I am elated by your dedication and hard work so far.
Bee…
Two_Sentence_Critic…
Grean…
Claudette Bouchard…
Simone le Roux…
This week, all five of you shook me to my core. You all really slayed this challenge, and neither one of you broke genre or submitted an incomplete piece.
Congratulations, all five of you are in the Top.

Anna Bellamy…
BC Marsden…
Dan James…
Mag Dissa…
The Suen…
The five of you are all in Danger and up for elimination. Two of you submitted a piece that broke genre, which is an unforgivable offense in this competition. No matter how well you write, no matter how good the story, if it doesn’t meet the prompt details, then you will be placed in Danger. One of you also submitted an incomplete piece, and something incomplete cannot be wholly judged.
The other two of you, I’m sorry to say that while neither of you broke genre or submitted an incomplete piece, your stories just do not hold up to this week’s standards which were laid down by the Top 5 this week.
If any of you are elim—
[SIMONE]: Confessa! Wait!
[CONFESSA]: What is it? [SIMONE]: Since I don’t need my immunity this week, I would like to donate it to someone to save them from possible elimination.
[CONFESSA]: [nods] Very well. Who do you choose to save?
[SIMONE]: The Suen. I believe he has a lot more to show, and that he can do better than what he did this week! You said it yourself, he could have made the Top if this were a Supernatural Horror challenge.
[CONFESSA]: The Suen…
[The Suen breathes a huge sigh of relief.]

[CONFESSA]: This time you are Safe. You will be placed Low*. Someone in this competition really believes in you! Don’t let her down.
[THE SUEN]: Oh my God, thank you so much Simone! I’ll do my best from here!
[CONFESSA]: If any of you are eliminated today, this does not mean that this is the end forever, nor does it mean you are a failure. It boils down to the performance of your writing for this week. You should all feel really proud of yourselves.
...
...
...
[CONFESSA]: Bee, your story was macabre, mystical, and the very essence of what a Slasher piece represents. Claudette, even though your style isn’t the most polished among your competitors, what you brought to the Slasher piece was out-of-the-box, brilliant, and innovative.
Congratulations, both of you are the Winners this week!
I’ll allow you some time to deliberate on who among your competitors you think deserves the hatchet.

[Bee and Claudette both walk over to The Dark Altar, a table covered in a black cloth with an already lit violet candle sitting on its draped surface. It sits propped up by an obsidian holder. A red pen and pieces of parchment have been put out for them. They each write a name on their parchments and place them in a single envelope, stamping it closed with the purple wax of the candle and the MurderHaus sigil. They hand the envelope to Confessa.]
[CONFESSA]: Thank you, Bee, Claudette.
[She tears open the envelope and reads both pieces of paper.]

[CONFESSA]: Yes, of course.
...
The first person to be cut from Cycle 1 of MurderHaus is…
...
...
...
Mag Dissa!
...AND Anna Bellamy!
I’m sorry, this is where your story gets the final edit. You both should be very proud of the work you put in.
[MAG]: Thanks for everyone’s time! It’s been fun! And, congrats to both Bee and Claudette this week.
[ANNA]: Even though mine wasn’t finished, I really enjoyed this contest. Good luck everyone!
[CONFESSA]: You… have been cut.
Bee, Claudette. Both of you have one more choice to make for next week’s prompt. Will you pick Creature Feature or Dark Fantasy?
[BEE] and [CLAUDETTE]: (in unison) CREATURE FEATURE!

2020.07.23 00:01 UnlikelyMantisShrimp FFIL made a Facebook for the sole purpose of publishing his racist commentary and religious delusions. I’m brown and FFIL wants me out of FH’s life.

X-posted from relationship_advice:
Hi everyone, this one’s going to be QUITE long. My apologies in advance— there’s a LOT of background. Please read, if you can. I’m at my wits end and need advice.
FH and I are high school sweethearts who’ve been together for 5 years and have known one another for 7. Our relationship is a JOY, and we’ve decided to get married in 2021 for both love and practical reasons (part of this is increasing my chances of getting financial aid for law school). We’re an interracial couple— I’m half Filipino/white and identify as Asian, and FH is white.
When we announced the engagement in January, my family was thrilled. They adore FH. And his family was surprisingly fine with it.
Background: FH’s family is devout Catholic (and when I mean devout, I mean that literally every facet of his life has been tinted with catholic obsession). Neither parents work because FBIL (23) has substantial intellectual and physical disabilities, and is violent, so they’re his full-time caretakers (and they can do so because FFIL’s dad is an actual millionaire). FMIL does all the work— cleaning, cooking, feeding FBIL. FFIL mostly does oddball activities— watching movies from the 70s, selling his car and buying new ones, and almost daily (pre-COVID) meeting with priests. That, and going on YouTube to watch “Muslim concerts to catholic— heartwarming” videos and calling Muslims “sinful Islamists.”
FFIL and FMIL are brilliant on paper. They met in the University of Chicago’s MBA program. But FMIL’s role in the home is the “silent catholic wife,” and she nods along to the behaviors of FFIL. FFIL is what our therapists have speculated might be psychotic, or at least, delusional. He writes Nancy Pelosi every day, he thinks Princess Diana is his guardian angel, he thinks he’s unlocked the perfect way to pray, etc. He also thinks he’s in a grand conspiracy where he’s being targeted by some agency for being Catholic, and he thinks the cops are after him. He used to own guns but sold them all because he believed Obama would personally step in to take his guns away. Despite being very religious and having some right-wing beliefs, they’re really pro-immigration, adopted a Mexican daughter, etc. I didn’t think they were racist until recently.
When they met me in 2016, FFIL’s parents had a bit of a problem with me from the start. First time I met FFIL, he approached me while FH and I were playing board games at his house. He told me that he wanted me to know that I must be “pure and chaste,” and not “to do anything that will compromise the purity of the relationship with my son.” Then he pulled a medal with the Virgin Mary on it, and told me I must carry it with me at all times. The card listed “facts” about virginity.
At some point, they found out that my dad is catholic (ex) and my mom was loosely raised Protestant. FFIL went on a tirade at dinner, telling me that their marriage should have fallen apart because Protestants are basically heretics. I told him that my parents are indeed divorced. He went off about how I wasn’t raised right, that my parents would burn in hell, etc. I looked to FMIL and she smiled, nodding along in silence like she always does. I was 16 and immature, and I started to cry. FH was whisked away and told that “marriage only happens once, so don’t ever marry this one. She has some sins to be healed of.”
Over the years, I’ve been low to no contact with FFIL and FMIL. It was fine because FH and I were just dating. Still, I was disgusted by the once-in-a-blue-moon texts to FH from FFIL about how he should convert me, or how I’m sinful, etc. FH carried on a lie that I was attending catholic mass to keep the texts at bay. Once, FFIL attended a banquet I was at celebrating our debate team, at which I was asked to speak, and he pulled me aside and told me he wants me to get on a plane and “leave the country” for critiquing the DHS.
I wrote them off a long while ago, but now that I’m marrying their son, I’ve made an effort to be more cordial. Part of this, stupidly, was agreeing to have my wedding in the Catholic Church (something we just decided isn’t actually happening since we’re officially disgusted by how they’ve handled the pedophilia crisis, how they’re anti-gay, etc.). They were happy at first about our marriage, until I realized that FFIL had wrote on a form for the priest about our wedding that he thinks I may have “coerced” FH into marrying me with our cohabitation (read: sex).
Whatever. I rolled my eyes at that but I didn’t care enough. That was until he told us he recommended I check out the religious tips that he’s posted to his Facebook page. The page has no followers or friends.
Now here is where this post actually begins. We looked at the Facebook page, and it was full of racist garbage.
It was early June, when the protests over the death of George Floyd began. FFIL had both general nonsense (“Vote [FFIL] for president. Against abortion. For prosperity for all people.”) and racist BS. He posted about how he believes that BLM is calling for “the genocide of whites,” that under the Obama admin., “90% of jobs were held by non-whites,” that he thinks he was fired (he was fired from his job(s) in the early 2000s) 11 different times because of brown people who didn’t “deserve” his job, etc.
The term “white genocide” set us off. FH and I decided to comment, and we took a measured approach. FH commented things like, “Dear dad, I see you’re worried about the state of the country. I understand that the country is in anguish right now, but the term ‘white genocide’ is very serious. It’s used by Nazis, and I know how much you hate them, but they use the term as a talking point often to mean that they think interracial marriages and POC having children is disgusting. I know you don’t feel that way, so maybe you could use a different term.” FFIL deleted FH’s comments. I commented things in a similar tone, asking for clarification on what he meant, expressing that I am hurt by some of his comments, etc. Comments deleted again.
FFIL then began messaging me, telling me that racism isn’t real and that I should have more pity for HIM because he was bullied as a child by his sister (??). He then went on a rant about how brown people are taking all the jobs even though they’re universally unqualified. He said the same applies to my father, who is an engineer like FFIL used to be, then walked it back and said he “can’t know [my] father’s capabilities.” I told him, bluntly, that I find his words appalling.
Privately to FH, he let FH know that he will continue to use “white genocide” as he pleases, because he feels “hunted by non-whites,” and that FH should not marry me. If he did, “it would be the biggest mistake of your life.” The next morning, FFIL made a post calling me “the threatening non-Anglo” and another post about how we need the broadest access to self-defense measures possible in case “the non-whites try a Rwanda against the whites, which I fear is coming.” He also posted that anything racist he had ever said (we showed him YouTube comments he’d left once calling a Muslim a “sandmonkey towelhead”) were “ISIS hacks” into his accounts.
FMIL called us to tell us that FFIL doesn’t have a racist bone in his body, and that he “smiles at little black children” in public and he’s just “stressed by riots.” When we told her that it’s unacceptable how FFIL responded to me, she said that despite FFIL calling me a “mistake,” FFIL “loves and adores me so much.” FMIL says she believes that he’s such a good man that he never could possibly have called anyone a sandmonkey, so she agrees that he must have been hacked, if not by ISIS then by some agency targeting FFIL.
We asked for him to give us an apology, and days later, FMIL called us saying that FFIL is “fragile” and doesn’t respond well to “aggressive women” because his mother was an alcoholic, so I’m required to “forgive.” She wants me to apologize to FFIL for my “aggression.” She also expressed that she wishes I would convert to Catholicism. FH maintained the lie that I’m “considering conversion,” which makes my blood boil (but that’s a separate issue, I guess). FMIL also believes that FFIL didn’t use the term “white genocide,” and if he did it was defensible, and she believes this because FFIL said he never used that term.
FH expressed to FMIL that this incident, plus a long history of delusions, makes him worry for his father’s mental state, and that our therapists (who we started seeing because of this incident) think that he possibly is psychotic and possibly schizophrenic. FH wants to see if there’s any chance he’d be open to talking to a professional (even catholic affiliated counseling or faith based counseling) because he’s worried that the dad’s mental state is regressing as he ages as well. FMIL claims he has ADHD only but that she’ll try to get him help. She’s made no attempt to do so in the past month, despite gentle pestering from FH.
It’s been one month since this incident, and he blocked us on FB with the help on FMIL, who doesn’t think that it’s healthy for him to have access to a public platform, so she also restricted his account to “just me” in the privacy settings. With a few therapy sessions, we decided that little contact is best for us with FFIL, but FH wants to keep FMIL in his life, despite her defending FH’s racism towards me (even including her saying that calling me a “threatening non-Anglo”) was innocent. In the past two weeks, I’ve also learned that when FH was a kid, FFIL threw a hamster at the wall, has called FMIL “stupid” and “in the way of FFIL’s relationship with God.”
The final straw here is that last night, we realized that FFIL unblocked FH and I, and he’s made his posts public. Now he’s posting about how he thinks “white nationalism” is really just “patriotism” and he defends and stands with white nationalists. For me, that’s just too much to hear coming out of the mouth of FFIL, mentally ill or not. FMIL sees no problem with his behavior, and FH is upset, but wants to ignore it and just play nice with his mom. I’m supposed to pretend it doesn’t bother me that she defends his behavior and that FFIL is openly racist, and I’m supposed to smile, have them at the wedding I’m paying for by working four jobs (and having my brown family members at), and go on trips with them. We’re supposed to go fishing with FMIL and FH’s 7 year old nephew in a week, but I kinda feel like I’m just rewarding FMIL with my company and kindness if I were to attend.
I don’t really know what to do. I just feel like I’m in over my head marrying into a family like this, and FH loves me, but isn’t really willing to go no-contact because he thinks he can somehow “fix” his dad. The therapists have told him that it’s not really likely to work out that way. Still, he loves his family, and I understand why he wants to persist. But it does hurt me to feel like I have to accept the strange religious abuse and racist commentary and the gaslighting that FFIL “loves me” and “loves minorities and all religions,” which is almost worse than the abusive behavior itself. I don’t know what advice I’m looking for in particular, but if anyone has thoughts on what to do, please help.
Especially wedding-wise. I just wanna cancel the whole thing and elope, but FH wants a church wedding.
TL;DR: FFIL made a Facebook where he yells about how the non-whites are going to cause a “second Rwanda” against whites, so the whites need to literally arm themselves, among other racist musings; I’m brown, and wish we could go no-contact, but FH is determined to “save” FFIL from his mental illness.

2020.07.18 05:24 ketocheetohpuffs I love you Tulsa

TL/DR --> Klandemic to Pandemic, educate and re-imagine.
I’m gonna start my story in current day Tulsa, since we are the center of the universe. Well, center of the revolution rather. Keep in mind the recent SCOTUS ruling and the recent BLM protests and the Trump rallies, I mean how could you forget that anyway. Anyway, one of my imaginary intolerably angry Indian personalities peaked my interest in a piece of marble I see all the time, but have never noticed. Almost as if it was invisible. I’m gonna start there at the Tulsa Association of Pioneers Monument, or as the kids call it, The Back to Back Genocide Champions Trophy. I felt my investigatory work was pretty excellent when I found Bynum's name just a few apart from Brady. Someone far more observant and informed than I pointed out to me the monument celebrates a bbq on September 21, 1921. Dang, I thought, that’s pretty god damn quick, from blood to bbq sauce. I wonder what this bbq was like?
When you go back into the Tulsa World collection and look up this event, you’ll find it didn’t happen on September 21, it was actually on the front page of the September 18 Sunday morning paper. So, the BBQ was on September 17th, a Saturday. The day before that, the Tulsa County Fair started in town. It was especially huge and for the first time, it was free. It ran from the 16th - 20th. The KKK makes front page news the two days leading into the fair, Thursday and Friday. They basically say, this is our town, and if your lawless ass comes around it aint gonna be good. What else comes to town during this time? Monday’s paper tells us the Confederate Reunion will be here for a three day event! Yay! What a good time to have them, we’ll be having a huge free fair, how convenient. Let's make the train rides into Tulsa free too, if you wear your red nose. Oh wait, it's already free for grey coats, ok good. Wouldn’t want to limit the influx of our recruiting opportunities. KKK heavily recruited within the confederate reunions, and with good reason as they both treat non whites worse than livestock.
Just in case we gotta stop and talk about what the Civil War was about, it was definitely about slavery. It’s not that it wasn’t about states rights, it was just specifically about the states rights to own people. But if you tell the story a certain way long enough, the southern lost cause becomes history. Ok, anyway, enough of the civil war, we all know the good guys won that right? I dunno really. I think the south won. They killed the President one week after the “end” of the civil war, and replacing Lincoln, was his Democrat VP, the uneducated Andrew Johnson. He immediately put into legislation the planned oppression of blacks while welcoming the seceded states back to the union. He’ll go down as one of the worst presidents in history. Now, Democrats then were white power people, that was their basic platform. Watch this Vox video on Wilmington NC to see all the parallels in their story and Tulsa’s 1921 Massacre. Another interracial love story that ends with a mob of angry white people burning down black property and then burying the history. So we see, slavery had been abolished, so they made legal slavery; the real pride of the south.
I want to get back to the BBQ / County Fair / Statewide Confederate Reunion in 1921, but to do that event any justice we’d first have to describe the biggo National Confederate Reunion in Tulsa three years prior in 1918. It should be noted that all five civilized tribes supported the confederacy. Oklahoma is a southern state in that respect. Tulsa rolled out the red carpet for these red noses in grey suits. The collectors edition Tulsa World is a showcase all of its own. Woodrow Wilson is the man of the hour as he’s the first southern president since the Civil War. Interestingly, he was our president during WW1. Nearly every company in Tulsa takes out full page, half page, quarter page ads in the paper. They boast about how awesome our schools are. They pretty much make a Tulsa for Tesla video but way better. The Majestic Theatre is showing movies at never before seen low prices. Well, they're showing one movie, The Birth of a Nation, and it runs for 12 hours a day, all weekend. That's a three hour klan movie, on repeat, four times in a row, three days in a row for cheaper than you've ever seen a movie. Name any other fucking thing people have ever done that with.
In that newspaper, specifically, they tell a story about the “birth of our city,” if you will. From Little Acorns Big Oaks Grow. Read the story. These dudes are glorified as the fathers of our city, in a special edition of a paper that is glorifying the birth of a nation, as if the city isn't older than time. They say in that paper, that yeah we know Tulsa has blown up in the past twenty years since its incorporation, but what will happen in the next five years will greatly overshadow everything that's been done. Tulsa continues to blow the fuck up between the two confederate reunions in 1918 and 1921, it also burns down, a certain part of it at least.
The oil game was crushing it, especially with the war time needs for oil, followed by the industrial explosion after WW1. Think about all the cars they made after the economy switched from wartime to peacetime production. Entire industries were birthed. Catalog purchasing became popular in this time. People were told to buy. And boy did they get everyone onto buying cars. So many cars in fact, Route 66 was born shortly later. They were booming, the oil business was pretty pretty pretty good. They even gave away cars at the national reunion to several lucky racists.
Back to the statewide confederate reunion in 1921… After the week long county fair party and confederate business meetings, the fellas end with a good old fashioned Southern Ball at the convention center, where the dude in the paper says how great of a city it is, so great in fact that the bootblacks shined their shoes for free on their way to the convention center. This is the same city that looted and burned down a square mile of “Little Africa” three months prior, over a bootblack on an elevator with a white girl. That’s what happened on September 21, 1921, not a fuckin kumbaya bbq at papa Kennedys farm with the fathers of the city, rather a Southern Ball that celebrated and danced in the very building that imprisoned hundreds of blacks just three months prior.
The next day, the idiots had their parade, but they used cars because the old timers were just too old. Dude even fell down some stairs and broke himself, it's in the paper. At the end of this spiritual journey, Tate Brady gave a shout out to how good of a job Tulsa did again as the host of RocklaHatredfest. He then calls for all camps to create committees whose sole purpose is to find false histories, those that de-glorified the south, and destroy them. No more fake news. He called upon them to collaborate with their women and libraries and historical societies and school curriculums and to use all means possible to white wash history as it should be told. And I’m sure, to etch into stone, whenever possible, the glories of the south. I want to note that the governor, the national guardsman, the mayor, the police chief, the sheriff, and police officers were in attendance at this glorious reunion. And why wouldn't they be there? Police were per capita the highest occupation in the klan.
Why is the date wrong on the monument? Everyone knows if you're in the wedding party you gotta get there a couple days early. The whole event was one big old-timers day, from the OG’s only bbq, to friends and family weekend at the fair, to professional business meetings at the reunion, to the big ball for men without any. That and JM Hall was probably a fuckin idiot, thats why he wanted his name on the marble phallus three times.
In ‘47, the Tulsa Associations of Pioneers gave land to the city, about an acre worth, as long as the city would allow the erection of their rock hard phallus. The city warmly accepted. Then a few months later, the Tulsa Association of Pioneers came back to the city and was like, hey we’ll give you four more acres, it will connect Owen Park to the land the statue is on, as long as you let us have our annual bbq there every year, it's called “Old-Timers Day.” City again graciously accepted. The organization disband in 1964, poetically, the year of the Civil Rights Act.
For one, I’m not sure that monument stands on the land it was supposed to be put on, but secondly, and more importantly, mother fuck old-timers day. Fuck that with a fuckin dogs dick. If anyone deserves a city sanctioned annual party in our public park it's the people of Tulsa who can accept the ugly truths about our history and realize how they uniquely shape who we are, and what our natural perspectives are, and by doing so begin to exercise the empathy necessary to find comfort and celebration in each other's existence together.
Now, back to present day, we got a president who comes to our city (rez) on Juneteenth, defending the confederate flag and monuments? We got a president who shows up on the stolen land at Mt Rushmore on 4th of July? We got a mayor who gives not one shit about doing a good job as mayor during the pandemic? Do the Governor and Mayor only care about the continuation of their political campaign? Why? Because the supremacy ideology is still around. They care not about people, but only care to preserve their power, and thus perpetuate their version of history. They built the system we know as America, now we have this goofy dog shit happening. Behold, the greatest country in the world.
Work with me here, but maybe this illusion isn’t worth returning to. This virus is the perfect “time out.” It's up to everyone to perpetuate the truth in history. They want us to be divided. They need that turmoil and class division, that fear and hatred and misunderstanding. They also need us to grease the gears of the grand illusion. Our time is their money. Fuck all that shit man, life is for more than that.
Wake up and revolt, rest and repeat. See ya in the park, eventually. Even you u/digitalhypnosis, love ya man.

2020.06.15 20:33 sheisfaithless Being born a muslim has ruined all my relationships.

To protect myself I will not mention which country I’m from and if you know, maybe what I’m writing would make more sense. I’m born with interracial parents. Mother is Chinese converted to Islam and father is pure Islam. They got divorced when I was really young and I basically grew up in the Chinese culture. I don’t pray or wear hijab. My teenage years were quite challenging as I’d be the only muslim in school that doesn’t wear hijab or pray.
I’ve had a few serious relationships with muslim and non muslim men. I tried understanding being a proper muslim and dating a muslim man, but I never felt like myself and was constantly judged for just being who I am. (Mostly on my appearance and my views)
And with non muslim men, I encounter problems such as converting when getting married or disapproval from parents because I am born a muslim. Even though I told them very clear that I don’t support this law, it didn’t matter because the law is written that way. If we get caught living together, we will get jailed/the guy has to automatically convert and marry me. Which is bullshit, TBH.
At one point I really lost hope in love until early last year I found someone who accepted me as I am and supports me in many ways. He is an agnostic. His family however is Chinese and Christian. I remember the first time his family found out about us, his dad outright told him that he is no longer his son and he will write him out of his will. His mother said I did some sort of black magic to him because I’m so ugly. Even after a year, they’re slightly ok now, I still know his family would tell him to be careful of me.
The kind of fear mongering bullshit and propaganda that this religion has created for the non-muslims and ex-muslims like me has affected my life SO MUCH. It’s like there is NO such thing as freedom. I will get advice such as “if he really loves you he will convert” or “it’s just converting on papers, you can still do whatever you want behind doors” or “no point fighting for your rights, just work hard enough and move out of the country and live happily there”.
The problem to all this advice is, 1. I don’t want him to convert. 2. Even if he wants to convert in the name of legality, we both agreed we don’t want our kids to be born muslim. 3. Ok so what if I worked so fucking hard but end up still stuck in this shit of a country? 5-10 years down the road, in this capitalist world, WHAT IF, I am still here? What then? 4. Denouncing in my country is DEATH or in my state, appeal to Syaria Court and attend “rehab” 30-90 days to “change” your mind to quit Islam and even then it can take up to a year.
I can’t help but have these thoughts once in a while. We have tried many ways to get out, find jobs overseas but unfortunately there’s no way out with our current financial situation and the amount of capital we need to secure anything out of my country.
Depressing and hopeless.

2020.06.05 02:29 pierian_spring The Church's History with Racism

I come from a long line of TBMs and I was one for most of my life. My transition out of the church was spurred by LGBT issues, the church's history with race, and a comparison between the two. At one point, I wrote my dad a long e-mail documenting my feelings about the church's history with race and a number of resources. I feel like it is prudent to share with this group in light of all that is happening now, especially because many TBM's are sharing Nelson's post and/or trying to say the church was persecuted in Missouri for treating African Americans like people. Enjoy this far too long letter:
Hi Dad,
At some point, I would like to talk with you about an issue that really really bothers me, and I think is indicative of how the church will handle the LGBT issues going forward, and that in my mind really undermines any claim to divine leadership from the church. It seems to me that Church leadership changes over time and contradicts itself on who qualifies for the priesthood, salvation and the celestial kingdom—key doctrinal points, not esoteric non-salvation oriented tangential “deep doctrine.” Today I want to talk about the church’s history with people that have black skin.
To be upfront about my emotional state on this, I am angry about the church’s history here and am ashamed to be associated with such bigoted, violent and hateful rhetoric. I want to have a conversation, but not start an argument, especially because I am very doubtful that I will change my mind on the subject. You mentioned in one of our previous conversations that you wanted me to know that you are aware of and have been seriously bothered by some issues (you weren’t clear on which ones, but I presume this is one). In my view, men that claim to be prophets that screw up this badly, cause significant lasting damage, and get such fundamental points of doctrine wrong (like who qualifies for heaven) are not entitled to my trust. I think past presidents of the church were clearly not led by a loving God that is no respector of persons. I think this history undermines the claims that God won’t allow the president of the church to lead the church astray because the church has followed this “bad” precedent for more than half of its history, and has only fully incorporated black people in the last 40 years. If past presidents screwed up this badly, there is no reason that current presidents cannot make similar blunders and I am no longer willing to outsource my morality based on what the leadership of the church claims is “true” “divine” or “doctrine”
The gospel topics essays from the church state “Today, the Church disavows the theories advanced in the past that black skin is a sign of divine disfavor or curse, or that it reflects unrighteous actions in a premortal life; that mixed-race marriages are a sin; or that blacks or people of any other race or ethnicity are inferior in any way to anyone else. Church leaders today unequivocally condemn all racism, past and present, in any form.” https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics/race-and-the-priesthood?lang=eng
There is a lot to unpack here, and I will try to be succinct with my questions but will provide significant evidence and sources. Please speak up if you have an concerns about the quality or veracity of my sources.
  1. In your view, does the church topics essay mean the church is “disavowing” certain parts of the scriptures, for example, 2 Nephi 5:20-21 “20 Wherefore, the word of the Lord was fulfilled which he spake unto me, saying that: Inasmuch as they will not hearken unto thy words they shall be cut off from the presence of the Lord. And behold, they were cut off from his presence. 21 And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.” See also Jacob 3:5, 3 Nephi 2: 15, and Moses 7:8. If so, what does that mean for the validity of the scriptures? If not, how do you reconcile the essay and the scriptures that seems at odds.
  2. Is a Church committee disavowing what was taught as doctrine (but in the church topics essays dismissed as “theories”) by prior presidents of the church? I have so many follow up questions to this, but I think they largely boil down to “how can I trust current leadership when past leadership screwed up so badly and dug in their heels?” and “Wouldn’t it be better for me to trust my own internal moral compass than outsource it to church leadership, because I would much rather stand on the side of those that are being singled out and told they aren’t worthy (by no fault of their own, at least in this life) rather than in the safety of a “prophet” that claims to speak for God?” there is also an administrative and theological issue with an unnamed church committee and scholars (rather than a current church president) overruling the past presidents of the church that claim to be the only living person to have all the keys of the kingdom. For example past teachings are in question bullet points under 3:
  3. Do you believe anything that is taught by church leaders in my below excerpts? If not, how to you reconcile these teachings with your faith in their divine mandate? There are literally dozens, if not hundreds of these types of quotes spread throughout the church’s teachings by presidents of the church and the quorum of the 12. I have tried to pick the best representations and most troublesome
Origin of black skin as a curse and divinely authorized slavery:
Joseph Smith Jr claimed slavery was of God and that Blacks were the sons of Ham that deserved slavery. “It is my privilege then, to name certain passages from the bible, and examine the teachings of the ancients upon this matter, as the fact is uncontrovertable, that the first mention we have of slavery is found in the holy bible, pronounced by a man who was perfect in his generation and walked with God. And so far from that prediction’s being averse from the mind of God it remains as a lasting monument of the decree of Jehovah, to the shame and confusion of all who have cried out against the South, in consequence of their holding the sons of Ham in servitude! https://www.josephsmithpapers.org/paper-summary/letter-to-oliver-cowdery-circa-9-april-1836/2
Brigham Young repeated the same ideas. “I will remark with regard to slavery, inasmuch as we believe in the Bible, inasmuch as we believe in the ordinances of God, in the Priesthood and order and decrees of God, we must believe in slavery. This colored race have been subjected to severe curses, which they have in their families and their classes and in their various capacities brought upon themselves. And until the curse is removed by Him who placed it upon them, they must suffer under its consequences; I am not authorized to remove it. I am a firm believer in slavery. . . . When the Lord God cursed old Cain, He said, ‘Until the last drop of Abel’s blood receives the Priesthood, and enjoys the blessings of the same, Cain shall bear the curse;’ then Cain is calculated to have his share next and not until then; consequently, I am firm in the belief that they ought to dwell in servitude.” Speech by Governor Brigham Young in Joint Session of the Legislature Giving Counsel on a Bill in Relation to African Slavery Salt Lake City, Friday, 23 January 1852 cited in The Complete Discourses of Brigham Young, ed. Richard S. Van Wagoner (Salt Lake City: Smith-Pettit Foundation, 2009), 1:473-74; The Teachings of President Brigham Young, Volume 3: 1852-1854, comp. and ed. Fred C. Collier (Salt Lake City: Collier’s Publishing, 1987), 26-29 available at http://mit.irr.org/brigham-young-we-must-believe-in-slavery-23-january-1852
If not cursed from their ancestors, Harold B. Lee suggests black people were less valiant in the pre-earth life. “The privilege of obtaining a mortal body on this earth is seemingly so priceless that those in the spirit world, even though unfaithful or not valiant, were undoubtedly permitted to take mortal bodies although under penalty of racial or physical or nationalistic limitations.” (Harold. B. Lee, Decisions for Successful Living)
Not only was Cain called upon to suffer [for killing Abel], but because of his wickedness he became the father of an inferior race. A curse was placed upon him and that curse has been continued through his lineage and must do so while time endures. Millions of souls have come into this world cursed with a black skin and have been denied the privilege of Priesthood and the fulness of the blessing of the Gospel. These are the descendants of Cain. Moreover, they have been made to feel their inferiority and have been separated from the rest of mankind from the beginning. Enoch saw the people of Canaan, descendants of Cain, and he says, "and there was a blackness came upon all the children of Canaan, that they were despised among all people." . . . In the spirit of sympathy, mercy and faith, we will also hope that blessings may eventually be given to our negro brethren, for they are our brethren—children of God—notwithstanding their black covering emblematical of eternal darkness (The Way to Perfection, by Joseph Fielding Smith, Genealogical Society of Utah, 1935, pp. 101-102).
“The attitude of the Church with reference to the Negroes remains as it has always stood. It is not a matter of the declaration of a policy but of direct commandment from the Lord, on which is founded the doctrine of the Church from the days of its organization, to the effect that Negroes may become members of the Church but that they are not entitled to the Priesthood at the present time. The prophets of the Lord have made several statements as to the operation of the principle” (Official statement of the First Presidency to BYU President Ernest L. Wilkinson, dated August 17, 1951, quoted in John Lewis Lund, The Church and the Negro, p. 89).
Interracial marriage prohibition:
Brigham Young claimed the Law of God demanded instant capital punishment for interracial marriage and would never change. “Shall I tell you the law of God in regard to the African race? If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so. The nations of the earth have transgressed every law that God has given, they have changed the ordinances and broken every covenant made with the fathers, and they are like a hungry man that dreameth that he eateth, and he awaketh and behold he is empty.” Brigham Young, (March 8, 1863.) Journal of Discourses 10:110 available at https://www.fairmormon.org/answers/Journal_of_Discourses/10/25#110
George Albert Smith reaffirmed Brigham Youngs position in May 1947: Furthermore, your ideas, as we understand them, appear to contemplate the intermarriage of the Negro and White races, a concept which has heretofore been most repugnant to most normal-minded people from the ancient patriarchs till now. God’s rule for Israel, His Chosen People, has been endogamous. Modern Israel has been similarly directed. We are not unmindful of the fact that there is growing tendency, particularly among some educators, as it manifests itself in this area, toward the breaking down of race barriers in the matter of intermarriage between whites and blacks, but it does not have the sanction of the Church and is contrary to Church doctrine.” (LDS First Presidency (George Albert Smith), letter to Virgil H. Sponberg, May 5, 1947)
Partial Blessings of the Gospel:
Blacks “cannot share in the Priesthood; they cannot bear rule; they cannot bear rule in any place until the curse is removed from them; they are a ‘servant of servants.’” Speech by Governor Brigham Young in Joint Session of the Legislature Giving Counsel on a Bill in Relation to African Slavery Salt Lake City, Friday, 23 January 1852 cited in The Complete Discourses of Brigham Young, ed. Richard S. Van Wagoner (Salt Lake City: Smith-Pettit Foundation, 2009), 1:473-74; The Teachings of President Brigham Young, Volume 3: 1852-1854, comp. and ed. Fred C. Collier (Salt Lake City: Collier’s Publishing, 1987), 26-29 available at http://mit.irr.org/brigham-young-we-must-believe-in-slavery-23-january-1852
George Albert Smith clearly stated that blacks don’t get the full blessings: “From the days of the Prophet Joseph even until now, it has been the doctrine of the Church, never questioned by any of the Church leaders, that the Negroes are not entitled to the full blessings of the Gospel. (LDS First Presidency (George Albert Smith), letter to Virgil H. Sponberg, May 5, 1947)
Other abhorrent quotes by church leadership:
“As a general thing that part of the Negro race that are in servile bondage, are much more comfortable and better provided for than the lower classes of the nations of Europe… When a master has a Negro and uses him well, he is much better off than if he was free.” Speech by Governor Brigham Young in Joint Session of the Legislature Giving Counsel on a Bill in Relation to African Slavery Salt Lake City, Friday, 23 January 1852 cited in The Complete Discourses of Brigham Young, ed. Richard S. Van Wagoner (Salt Lake City: Smith-Pettit Foundation, 2009), 1:473-74; The Teachings of President Brigham Young, Volume 3: 1852-1854, comp. and ed. Fred C. Collier (Salt Lake City: Collier’s Publishing, 1987), 26-29 available at http://mit.irr.org/brigham-young-we-must-believe-in-slavery-23-january-1852
“We must not inter-marry with the Negro. Why? If I were to marry a Negro woman and have children by her, my children would oil be cursed as to the priesthood. Do I want my children cursed as to the priesthood? If there is one drop of Negro blood in my children, as I have read to you, they receive the curse. There isn't any argument, therefore, as to inter-marriage with the Negro, is there?” Apostle Mark E. Peterson, “Race Problems – As They Effect the Church,” Address given at the Convention of Teachers of Religion on the College Level, delivered at BYU, August 27, 1954
"There is no doubt that the so-called civil rights movement as it exists today is used as a Communist program for revolution in America just as agrarian reform was used by the Communists to take over China and Cuba. This shocking statement can be confirmed by an objective study of Communist literature and activities and by knowledgeable Negroes and others who have worked within the Communist movement." (Elder Ezra Taft Benson Of the Council of the Twelve Apostles, Conference Report October 1967 pg 35-36 available at https://archive.org/details/conferencereport1967sa/page/n37
“If that Negro is faithful all his days, he can and will enter the celestial kingdom. He will go there as a servant, but he will get a celestial resurrection. He will get a place in the celestial glory. He will not go then with even the honorable men of the earth to the terrestrial glory, nor with the ones spoken of as being without law” (Apostle Mark E. Petersen, “Race Problems – as they affect the church" Address giving in Provo August 27, 1954, at the Convention of Teachers o Religion on the College level available at http://www.mormonthink.com/files/race-problems-affect-the-church-mark-e-peterson.pdf
"Negroes in this life are denied the Priesthood; under no circumstances can they hold this delegation of authority from the Almighty. (Abraham 1:20-27.) The gospel message of salvation is not carried affirmatively to them... negroes are not equal with other races where the receipt of certain spiritual blessings are concerned, particularly the priesthood and the temple blessings that flow therefrom, but this inequality is not of man’s origin. It is the Lord’s doing, is based an his eternal laws of justice, and grows out of the lack of Spiritual valiance of those concerned in their first estate." (Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine)
“For what purpose,” by Alvin R. Dyer is just all kinds of Bad: “The reason that spirits are born into Negro bodies is because those spirits rejected the Priesthood of God in the pre-existence. This is the reason why you have Negros upon the earth. You will observe that when Cain was influenced by the power of Lucifer to follow him to fall down and worship him in the beginning, it was then that the Lord came to him and said, ‘Cain, if you will abide the law – if you will keep the commandments, you too can be acceptable to me. But Cain rejected the counsel of God. He rejected again the Priesthood as his forebearers had done in the preexistence. Therefore, the curse of the pre-existence was made institute through the loins of Cain. Consequently you have then, the beginning of the race of men and women into which would be born those in the pre-existence who had rejected the Priesthood of God. There was another division in the pre-existence – those who were not valiant in the acceptance of the Gospel. You see, there is a great difference between one who accepts and one who accepts and does something about it. We had a division in the pre-existence who did not reject the Priesthood, neither did they fully accept the plan of salvation that was advanced by the Christ. They, therefore, in accordance to the plan of the Gospel, became those of the lineage of adoption.” https://www.mrm.org/for-what-purpose-dyer
  1. Not really a question, but to add context to our discussion: One of the greatest issues I have with the church is the church’s unwillingness to accept fault or apologize. They even have new testament scripture that talks about seeing through a glass darkly. Instead, they try to wipe the slate clean and ignore the pain and culture that they created, and blame God. I am well aware of Bruce R. McConkie’s explanation for all this horrible stuff, and I find it lacking for several reasons, not the least of which is that it was said at a CES educators conference, and not at general conference by the leader of the church.
“Forget everything that I have said, or what President Brigham Young or President George Q. Cannon or whomsoever has said in days past that is contrary to the present revelation. We spoke with a limited understanding and without the light and knowledge that now has come into the world. We get our truth and our light line upon line and precept upon precept. We have now had added a new flood of intelligence and light on this particular subject, and it erases all the darkness and all the views and all the thoughts of the past. They don’t matter any more. It doesn’t make a particle of difference what anybody ever said about the Negro matter before the first day of June of this year, 1978. It is a new day and a new arrangement, and the Lord has now given the revelation that sheds light out into the world on this subject. As to any slivers of light or any particles of darkness of the past, we forget about them. We now do what meridian Israel did when the Lord said the gospel should go to the Gentiles. We forget all the statements that limited the gospel to the house of Israel, and we start going to the Gentiles.” https://speeches.byu.edu/talks/bruce-r-mcconkie/alike-unto-god/
The above quote is infuriating, but in my view is the best defense anyone in the quorum of the 12 or above have ever given. He literally asks us to “Forget” everything that was taught for over 100 years. He literally acknowledges that this is a “new arrangement.” I also find the comparison to taking the gospel to the gentiles to be a very poor. I’m not aware of Jesus ever advocating that gentiles couldn’t get into the best heaven, are racially inferior, and should be killed on site for marrying a different race. His explanation also implies that God willfully let the past presidents of the church flounder in darkness while withholding the essential ordinances of salvation from people.
President Nelson’s recent address to BYU about the change in policy from 2015 to 2019 followed a similar pattern. Both policy decisions were dictated by God, but God, in his omniscience, failed to consider the pain people would feel, and it was President Nelson who pleaded with God to be more kind—he was “grieved” for the “heartache” the 2015 policy caused. https://speeches.byu.edu/talks/russell-m-nelson/love-laws-god/.
This talk is also infuriating for many reasons, including President broad statements that cannot be true for example “Sometimes we as leaders of the Church are criticized for holding firm to the laws of God, defending the Savior’s doctrine, and resisting the social pressures of our day. But our commission as ordained apostles is ‘to go into all the world to preach [His] gospel unto every creature.’ That means we are commanded to teach truth. In doing so, sometimes we are accused of being uncaring as we teach the Father’s requirements for exaltation in the celestial kingdom. But wouldn’t it be far more uncaring for us not to tell the truth—not to teach what God has revealed? It is precisely because we do care deeply about all of God’s children that we proclaim His truth. We may not always tell people what they want to hear. Prophets are rarely popular. But we will always teach the truth!” If prophets always teach the truth, what am I to make of the above teachings about black people that have now been disavowed as “theories?” Also, President Nelson also claims that “God has not changed his definition of marriage” which is ironic coming from the leader of a church that was famous for polygamy and then abandoned it, and currently practices eternal polygamy—President Nelson has been sealed to two women!

2020.05.31 20:11 geminikush Cutting off my toxic, manipulative, racist, aggressive Asian parents tomorrow and am excited to finally live my life. Any words of wisdom from people who have been through the same?

I posted this on relationships yesterday but the post was quite vague. Someone suggested to post on this sub and lot of people were asking for more specific details so here they are.
I am 24f and my Asian parents are both in their 60s. My siblings and I were born and raised in a major city in the US and my parents hate the fact that we act "American". We cannot speak our native language, have no relatives in America other than immediate family, and have never been to my parents home country. But for some reason my siblings and I are at fault for being too American. My siblings and I are the most white washed Asian kids you'll ever meet, but my parents are very old school, religious, and cultural. It makes it very hard to get along or even have a simple conversation with my parents due to the age and cultural differences.
My mom constantly refers to me as a "black girl" because I like rap music and speak like an American. My parents are both very racist but my mom is more vocal about it. She tells me every day not to marry a black man and constantly has very racist remarks about any man who is no the same type of Asian I am. She doesn't understand or approve of interracial dating and says if she has mixed grandchildren she will not want to help take care or babysit them. I constantly call her out on her racism and she is quick to say "I'm not racist it was just a comment. I have nothing against black people" but she clearly does. Jokes on her because I have never dated a man that is the same race as me. She'd have a heart attack if she found out.
My older sister is almost 30 and has what seems to be her first serious bf (we are not too close and don't talk about personal things like boys. I just assume because I hear her on the phone with him for hours every day). My mom does not let me or my sister out past midnight and my sister is not allowed to spend the night at her bfs (despite her being almost 30). My younger brothers have both been able to go out without a curfew and spend the night at their friends houses since they were 15. Me and my sister still don't have the permission to do that.
I moved away from my parents for college at 18 and it was the best 4 years of my life. I discovered my talents, interests, and true personality. Before I moved away, I wasn't allowed to do anything or go anywhere so I didn't even know who I was. I moved back with my parents 1.5 years ago after graduating college because money was tight. I've lived in pure hell and hated every second of living with my parents for the past 1.5 years. I worked full time, saved up a lot of money, and on June 1st I am finally moving out. I bought my own car and am so proud of myself for saving up enough to do that. My parents were mad that I bought a car because they want full control over me, and if I have my own car they cannot control where I go.
My mom makes good money and uses it to control all of my siblings. I have always been the independent one who refuses to take money and let them use money as a way to control my life. All of my siblings are still in school (both graduate school and undergrad) and my parents pay their tuition. Any time my siblings try to live their own life, go on a vacation, or do anything my parents hold money over their head to get them to do what they want. For example, if my sister wants to go on a vacation, my parents tell her she cannot go on a trip as a female and that because they pay for her tuition, she has to listen to what they say or she is an ungrateful child. None of my siblings stand up to my parents for this reason. They are not ready to move out of my parents house and when I get into an argument with my parents for standing up for my beliefs my siblings are quick to tell me to calm down and not start a fight, even though they agree that I am right. One of my brothers tells me he can't wait to graduate and get a good paying job in his field so that he can leave too. But until then he's stuck pleasing them.
My mom has her nose pierced and two piercings on each ear. When I was in college, I pierced my ear cartilage and came home to visit for the holidays. My mom freaked out that I did it without telling her and demanded I take it out. She said it was ugly and to not get any more piercings (she has 5 total, I only had 3). She also hates tattoos and talks negatively about anyone who has them. I have 4 tattoos that they don't know about but my mom always says if I get a tattoo she would kick me out.
My mom is a vegetarian for cultural reasons. A few months ago I decided to go vegan after realizing I have an intolerance to dairy. My mom knows nothing about veganism or the truth about the meat industry but called me stupid for going vegan (I have looked into tons of documentaries and wrote multiple research papers on the meat industry in college). She keeps trying to force dairy products onto me and keeps trying to get me to eat it, despite my health issues. If someone forced meat onto her she would be very angry and upset, but doesn't have the same respect for me when it comes to veganism.
My dad has always had anger issues and has been physically and verbally abusive to my mom. During quarantine they got into a huge fight, he threw his phone at her head and missed, it hit the wall and broke. She ran out of the house in fear and drove away. I was doing dishes at the time and he threw a glass cup at me for telling him "What the fuck is wrong with you, why are you throwing things? Calm down". The glass cup hit the sink and shattered everything that was in the sink. I had to pick glass out of the drain with my hands. He started to yell at me saying I achieved nothing in my life (I had a bachelor's degree by age 21 and have since went back to school) and he told me he should have kicked me and my siblings out of the house when we turned 16. He made fun of how much I make at my job even though his anger issues have always made him go job to job and he relies on my mom for money. He moved out of the house that day and my siblings and I all begged my mom to move on from him. That day I thought my relationship with my mom would get better now that he was out of the picture. All of my siblings and I supported her the next few days while she was still emotional about what happened and the things he said to her while he was being verbally abusive. By the end of the week, she went to where my dad was staying and brought him back home. My dad has still not apologized to me and is trying to go back acting like nothing happened. I have stopped speaking with my dad and my mom calls me a bitch and a disrespectful daughter for not speaking to him. She tells me that I need to forgive him at the end of the day, even though he has been like this my whole life and never apologizes or promises to change. She even said "at least he doesn't hit you" as if that makes what he did any better. She constantly chooses her abusive and aggressive husband over her kids and expects us to forgive him every time too.
My parents are both very sexist and don't like me or my sister wearing short or revealing clothing. They tell me not to wear tank tops when family friends come over. They have treated my sister and I like slaves since 6 or 7 years old. While my brothers were allowed to go outside and play or spend the night at their friends houses, my sister and I were washing/drying/folding clothes for the whole family, doing loads of dishes by hand upwards of 3 times a day and more on weekends, sweeping and mopping the floor, dusting, vacuuming, ironing clothes, and more. Every single weekend this was our routine, I was never allowed to relax or have fun. As soon as we were capable we had to repay our parents in the form of chores in exchange of them taking care of us. I washed my dad's underwear until age 22 when I put my foot down and told my mom it wasn't right. My mom called me disrespectful and said "he changed your diaper when you were little and this is how you treat him now?" All because I felt like I was too grown to be doing my parents laundry.
Tomorrow I am officially moving out of my parents house. They do not know yet because if I told them I was leaving, they'd kick me out that instant. My mom calls me disrespectful and says I act like a black person for standing up for myself and demanding respect. A majority of my friends are black and educated, strong, successful, kind hearted and supportive, but my parents think I am in a gang and being brainwashed by my friends. I am sick and fucking tired of trying to please them, putting up with their racism and homophobia, being their slave, hiding my personality because they wouldn't approve of it, hiding my tattoos and the way I want to dress, dealing with their toxic relationship, etc. I waited this long to move so I could make sure I had enough saved up so I never have to come back. I am scared of losing my relationship with my siblings too because they still depend on my parents but it's a sacrifice I'm willing to take. Maybe my siblings and I can reunite later or still keep in contact. I am scared but proud of myself and I won't let anyone ruin this accomplishment for me.
Does anyone have any advice or have you been in a similar situation? I know this will be hard and painful being without a family but I know it's necessary.
tldr; leaving toxic parents and am excited but scared. Any advice?
Edit: One week update! I told my sister about my plan to leave the day before I moved out. I was going to pack my boxes in the car and leave while everyone was sleeping to avoid unnecessary drama. I made one trip and came back to grab the rest of my boxes, and my sister had woken my mom to tell her I was leaving. My mom was on my ass asking for the address, asking if I was moving out of state, who I am going to live with, and if it's a house or an apartment. I told her none of those questions were any of her business and she got mad. She called me weird and said I act like they are my enemy. She told me that I don't make enough money to support myself and that I'd be back to live with her sooner or later. Then she started crying because I was ignoring the rude things she was saying. She kept telling me to think twice because as soon as I move apparently I'd need money, even though i have more than enough saved.
I wish i hadn't told my sister but that was a lesson learned. My mom has tried calling me every day. She left me a voicemail today asking if I need anything or any pots or pans to borrow. Interesting that she wants to be nice now.
I still have a group chat with my siblings and have been communicating with them daily. My mom has cracked down on my sister pretty hard and is hardly letting her go out or see her friends. But I'm not carrying that weight to deal with, and it's nice to be able to say "welp, not my problem anymore."
We'll see how it goes I guess. I feel a heavy weight lifted and feel more free. Still adjusting to being alone but it's only up from here.

2020.05.06 17:45 Ladyboykevin Caucasian Bitch Boy!

So this fine ass nigga is walking around the arcade, obviously looking for some action. I mean, this man is soooo FINE, and I'm afraid to get my hopes up, because for all I know he's gay, and gay guys, generally speaking, are not interested in Ladyboys like me!
It's a Friday night around 8 p.m., and the adult arcade is jumping. Men, mostly homosexuals looking for glory hole action, are walking around, some lurking furtively in the darkened corners, waiting. This was my favorite adult arcade, and I spent 6 to 7 nights a week here. Being a completely passable ladyboy, I had cultivated a following of regulars, straight guys who were into what I had to offer. I had discovered even before Dani divorced me, that there was an entire subculture out there, of shemales and men who were obsessed with them. I had been coming to this arcade even before my divorce, when I was still in the closet. Back then I would come in in regular street clothes, with a pair of high heels in my waistband, and lipstick in my pocket. And once in a booth I'd strip nude, put on the high heels, apply some lipstick, and wrap a bandana around my head, Aunt Jemima style, and wait for men to come in and then I'd get down on my knees and blow them, or let them bareback my hot ass!
Fuckin punk, bitch, Caucasian sissy, cocksuckin', HOE! Lol! Yeah, baby - that's ME! Fuckin' feminine little bitchboy, strutting down the street in a pair of raggedy ass, butt baring jeans cutoff SHORT-SHORTS! I love displaying my smooth, silky, sissified LEGS, in a pair of girly high heels, some red lipstick on my pouty blowjob lips, my blondie boy hair all teased up, as I mince in short little steps, my limp wrists hanging. Yes, men - y'all can follow my fairy ass into the adult video store, because you just KNOW this little pussy is gonna be putting out in there tonight!
Even before my wife busted me as a closet Queen, I was sneaking out behind her back in full drag, and giving blowjobs in the booths. I call it "sneaking out behind her back," but the truth is she was already dating her boyfriend openly, and acted like it wasn't nothing! So, to me, YES! Fuck that! I wanted MY freedom too! Free to be the HOT LADY I knew I was!
OMG! I saw this fuckin HOT man at Safeway this afternoon! He was in his 40s, balding, plain looking face, but what caught my eye were his LEGS! They were just FULL of hard MUSCLES! I could not tear my eyes away from them. I got the hardest dick looking at his beautiful legs! He looked like the kind of guy who I see in the adult video store. Guys like him tend to go for ladyboys like me! When a man like this comes in my booth for sex, I REALLY feel like I'm in Heaven! I get down in a naked high heeled squat at his feet, and run my hands all OVER those rock hard thighs and calves, my hard dick jumping involuntarily and I play his bare legs! Some times they take everything off, and I can see their gorgeous naked bodies!
Some men just want a quick blowjob, others like to have a love session. Love sessions can last from a half hour to an hour. The guys who like love sessions usually like to embrace naked and kiss. Some bitches do not like being kissed, but I fuckin LOVE making out with a macho mister! I love worshipping a man's beautiful body - kissing and licking his sweaty chest and armpits, opening my mouth to take his tongue - fuckin' HAWT! These guys usually want more than just a blowjob, they want to fuck! I love being dominated by a strong man! And some men like to slap a bitch like me around too. I get a little scared - especially if they're really big and strong - because sometimes they really don't know their own strength, and I have ended up with black eyes and or fat lips - not to mention my tits all pinched black and blue! And after a beating then to get rough fucked in the booth.
A typical night out for me is - depending on the night - giving blowjobs to anywhere between 12 and 20 men - many of them strangers, and also having sessions with my regulars. For example, on Saturday night I was sitting on the bench in the doorway of my favorite booth. I was wearing a black 2-piece string bikini, and a pair of sexy high heels, my blonde hair poofed and sprayed, my pouty lips red with hot lipstick. Every time I heard someone approach, I'd sit up, arch my back, cross my silky bare legs up high and sway my right foot, and pretend to be looking at myself in my compact mirror. This man kept hawking me out, going back and forth, leaning up against the wall opposite me and staring. I kept licking my lips and laughing. Finally I said, "Hi, sweetie - whatcha lookin for?"
He stepped toward me, I could see the bulge in his jeans. "Oh, I'm just hanging out, he said. "Those real?" he asked, pointing at my tits. I pulled them out of my bikini top; "Take a look," I said. He bowed his head and kissed on them, and as he did this, I reached forward and squeezed his package.
"You suck cock?"
"Yeah," I whispered huskily in his ear, as he slavered over my tits.
"How much?" he asked.
"Sixty bucks," I said.
"Wish I had it," he said
"How much you got," I asked him
"Twenty three bucks," he answered.
"Ok," I said, "Come on inside." I stepped into the booth and waited as he entered, then I locked the door. As he was feeding the video machine with paper tokens, I removed my bikini and went nude to just high heels. He looked at me.
"Ohhh, SHIT, baby! You are fuckin fine as fuck!" He said, running his big calloused hands allover my bare body, and pressing his sandpapery jaw into my tits, nuzzling on them, as I squeezed his jock! His big strong hands cupped my bare buttocks and he said, "That ass does NOT belong on a dude!"
He was about 5, 10, shaved head, maybe in his mid 40s. He quickly got out of his jeans and under shots, leaving his work boots and socks on, then he stripped off his t-shirt. He was a solidly built man, and he had about 8 inches of sweet hard blue veined cock. I got down on my knees, running my hands all over his big hairy LEGS! MMMM, DADDY! And I began giving him a hot naked bareback blowjob, sucking his hard cock and hairy nuts, stuffing his balls into my mouth. His hands came down and he was playing with my tits, then he started using his strong fingers to pinch on them - not the nipples - but the soft flesh of my breasts themselves -where it's tender and REALLY hurts! I felt my dick jump involuntarily as the pain began to course through my body. "Pinch em harder!" I told him, my voice garbled because of all the pork he had crammed into my mouth. And he did and the pain was so bad I would have screamed bloody murder, but his meat was stuffed down my throat, so all I could do was make loud painful yelps, like a cow mooing. Then it began to hurt so bad I grabbed his big hairy hand with my small one and tried to pull it off my tits. That's when he slapped me - HARD! So hard I saw STARS!
He grabbed my jaws in his hand so hard I thought he was going to dislocate them. "You keep your fuckin hands OFF of mine, cunt - you fuckin GET it??"
I was sniveling, tears and snot running down my face. I was beaten, whipped. I hung my head and nodded. "That's NOT an ANSWER, bitch," he said. "Do you GET it??'
"Yes daddy," I whimpered meekly. He grabbed my arm and put me on the bench, facing the wall, so that my bare buttocks were cocked up high. I knew I was about to get barebacked! "You gonna fuck me, daddy," I asked, looking back over my shoulder?
"You goddamn RIGHT I am, he growled, coming up behind me, laying his cock on my buttocks. I could see the flashes going off as he took pics of that on his cell phone. "Spread em apart, he barked. I reached behind and spread my bare buttocks, and I tensed when I felt the head of his cock at the mouth of my raw anus, before he mercilessly worked it up into me - balls deep! He had me in Full Nelson wrestling hold as he raipped me, pounding into me so hard and violintly that my head was slamming u against the back wall of the booth. Suddenly he tensed and I felt my guts flooding with his cum juice.
I've always been sexually attracted to fine ass MEN! Especially BLACK men! And for years all I could do was to dream and fantasize about doin' for a hot man. I'd watch literally HOURS of straight interracial porn, DROOLING over what those white cunts were doing for their black men, and wanting to be the one doing it! I already knew I looked fine as a woman; I had been secretly cross dressing since puberty, I had even gone out occasionally dressed as a female, and no one ever thought I wasn't. Once when I was in high school, I was at the mall, and I saw one of my teachers - a macho type guy, who always looked down at me in school - anyway he was giving me the eye, like he wanted to get with me. And I was dressed like a slut either, just normal, tights, sandals, and a blouse. But he wouldn't take his eyes off of me! I quickly got away from him, because I knew he was married, and also because I didn't want to start anything I couldn't finish.
My Filipina wife met her black man at karate, and I kept urging her to get pregnant, because its such a fuckin TURN ON! Her boyfriend was the owner of the dojo, and Dani told me he did not like using condoms with his women. YES! I said, "WOMEN" - plural! My wife was just ONE of his girls. Dani is from the Philippines, and there aren't a lot of opportunities for women over there to get with black men, so she had never had a black guy until she married me and I brought her to the U.S. She started going to the dojo with one of her Filipina friends, and she saw D'Twan there, and he always had 4 or 5 white girls some of them pregnant - on his jock, rubbing his back, or getting his coffee, and when he came on to Dani, she knew she could have him. Everyone said that if you wanted to be with D'Twan, you had to earn your position. I was surprised that Dani went for that, because she is super jealous and possessive, so when she meekly submitted to D'Twan's conditions, it surprised me, but I also found it kind of sexy - the thought of a fine sexy bitch like my wife, having to be just one of D'Twan's women! But what surprised me even more was that, D'Twan rotated his girls, and passed them off to other men, and Dani was no exception.
After a while, Dani was out of the apartment so much, spending time with D'Twan and the other black men in their group, that I got bored and began spending my spare time at the adult video stores. Until then I had only fantasized about sucking another man off, but one scorching Saturday afternoon I pulled over in the parking lot of Secrets adult video store on San Pablo in El Cerrito, and went inside. It was nice and cool inside, and the arcade in the back was dark, just a few very dim bulbs, plus each booth door had a red bulb - which was lit if the booth was occupied and the video machine was on. I was a little nervous because this was my first time in one of these places, and I was telling myself that, well - it's not like I'm gonna BLOW anyone! I'm just here to watch a video!
But I could have watched all the videos online at home that I wanted to - and I knew it. After paying the fee, you entered the arcade through doorway with flashing colored lights, and through a tinsel curtain. As you passed through, a loud tone would sound, serving notice to the staff that someone was ether entering or exiting. If you go straight in, about ten feet in facing the doorway, is a wall, upon which was a menu of the videos you can watch. There are also signs that say, "NO Loitering," and "No Smoking," both admonitions that are ignored. Then your options are to go either to the left or the right, where the corridors are lined on either sides with private video viewing booths. Every booth door has a sign that says: "Only ONE person per booth - violators may be prosecuted." This kind of scared me at first - the idea of being busted in a booth and arrested was something I didn't want to think about. But my desire for sex outweighed these concerns, and I headed up the right hand corridor to the last booth on the right, and went inside, locking the door behind me. Almost immediately I heard the doorknob rattling, and a soft knock on the door. But I was scared, and also I wanted to familiarize myself with the booth. The booth had a vinyl bench facing a machine with a video screen. I had been given 6 paper tokens when I had paid my fee, and I discovered that, to watch a video, you fed the tokens into the machine.
I already hard a hardon. I was wearing a tank top, a pair of shorts, and flip flops, and I hurriedly stripped naked, tossing out my longish blonde hair, and looking down at my smooth white body, at my tits and my hard penis. I was watching the video, and stroking my cock, and I quietly unlocked the door to my booth. About 5 minutes went by and no one came around, and I was extremely horny. So I rattled the doorknob loudly, and coked the door open slightly, and went back to watching the vid. Within a few seconds I heard footsteps approaching, and from the corner of my eye I could see a figure standing and looking in through the cracked door. I had butterflies in my stomach - part of me wanted to grab the door knob and shut and lock the door - but the other part told me to just keep stroking myself. Then the door creaked and opened halfway, and I could see a man standing there, looking at me. I looked. He was about 6 feet tall, older, dressed in black jeans, black t-shirt, and black boots. and he had a chain holding his wallet. He also had a leather cap on his head. Then I saw it - his white cock standing straight up whiter against the black backdrop of his jeans! Neither of us spoke, and he slid into the booth, locking the door behind him.
He had a nice thick cock, and it was really hard! I reached my hand out and took him in my hand. It felt so weird, holding another man's hardon in my hand! I leaned forward and put my lips around the head of his dick. I had never sucked a cock before, but I had dreamed and fantasized about doing it since puberty. I let my tongue out to slither around the head, and sucked my cheeks in. He unbuckled his pants and pulled his cock and balls out of his underwear. I remember noticing the thick gray pubic hair, and the gray hair on his arms, as I sank to my knees at his feet, and began blowing him. He was quiet and after a minute or so I heard him grunt, and I felt my mouth flooding with warm semen. I gulped it down, the taste weird and unfamiliar on my tongue, repellant and delicious at the same time! He pulled a napkin from his pocket and wiped his dick off, throwing the napkin on the floor. Then he buckled his pants back up, and walked out without a word between us, leaving me naked on the dirty floor. My head was reeling. I quickly locked the door and jerked off, shooting my cum all over the video screen.
As soon as I came I knew I shouldn't have. Because as long as I was horny, I was reckless and down for anything. But once I cum, I lose interest in sex and I just want to crawl back into the world of denial. And that's what happened then. I quickly dressed and ran toward the exit, lowering my head and walking rapidly out of the store. I felt like everyone was staring at me - that they had seen what I had done. When I got outside it was bright and hot, and I ran to my car and drove straight home. But by the time it took me to get home, I was already getting horny again. I went in the apartment and stripped nude and began jerking off to porn. Now I was really horny again, and cursed myself for leaving the adult video store. I decided to take advantage of my heat - I felt like a bitch in heat - and I grabbed a pair of 3 inch high heels, some red lipstick, and a bandana. Then I went back to my car and drove the 20 minutes BACK to Secrets. When I arrived it was around 3 p.m. I stuffed the heels into my waistband and went back in. a few minutes later I was back in the same booth. I striped naked and stepped into my high heels, and applied some sexy lipstick to my pouty lips, then I tied the bandana around my head, Aunt Jemima style - crossed my legs, and waited.
I didn't come back out again until past 11 p.m. In the interim I had lost count of how many cocks I had sucked, how much cum I had swallowed. I was convinced I had AIDS now - but I didn't give a FUCK! I was so happy! I knew now what the rest of my life would be dedicated to! I resolved to never go back to the closet again! It was dark as I walked from the lot to my apartment, and I still had on the bandana and some lipstick, and I was carrying the high heels, when I ran into Jerry, the apartment manager. "Hi, Jerry!" I said, smiling as I breezed past him. I had been hiding in the closet so long that being open like this was so liberating! I went into our apartment and jerked off until 3 a.m.
Dani and I both knew that our marriage was over after she began dating D'Twan, but neither of us ever actually brought it up. And now when she saw me wearing her black silk see through shorty robe and 1 inch heeled slippers, she just acted like it was normal. And that's how we ended up as roommates and not husband and wife anymore.
After that I went full drag. The next time Jerry the apartment manager saw me, I was wearing a black string bikini top, tight butt baring short shorts, high heels, lipstick and eyeshadow. "Kevin??" He asked, astonished.
"Yes, sweetie," I answered in my most feminine voice. "Did Dani pay the rent?" I threw my head back, tossing my hair, and wiggled my hips as I walked away from him. It felt GOOD to be a fucking FAGGOT!

2020.05.03 19:23 Twisted-Razor My Review of "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"

The film opens with a plane flying through the beautiful San Francisco skyline as the credits roll. We are then introduced to our main characters, John Prentice (played by Sidney Poitier) and Joey Drayton (played by Katharine Houghton), walking through the airport. A little over a minute in and we already see that they are a happy interracial couple, which was considered taboo during the late sixties.
Despite this, they look like any other happy couple from the time, obviously, they are both free-thinkers and don’t care about the social norms of the time.
The film seems like a parody of a standard couple of the time with the shock value being that they are an interracial couple.
Also, note the musical choice-- ‘The Glory of Love’ by Bette Midler. The lyrics somewhat represent the characters themselves, “And when the world is through with us, we’ve got each other's arms…” This can be interpreted as follows: despite the people of the time having their own thoughts on interracial relationships, the couple does not care because they have each other.
But I digress. As they get into a taxi, we get a very comedic scene of the couple kissing each other in the back seat. The driver seems almost shocked at this but continues to drive.
In their first conversation, we are introduced to the plot. John is about to meet Joey’s parents. We also see that he is a bit nervous, even trying to avoid it altogether. We also see that their visit will be a complete surprise to her parents. They didn’t tell them that they were coming. It also seems as if John has experienced racism in the past, and is afraid that Joey’s parents might be racist. However, Joey assures him otherwise.
We also get to see more of the beautiful San Francisco scenery. There’s something about the place that makes it perfect for many classics-- Vertigo, Dirty Harry, The Maltese Falcon, and, of course, San Francisco from 1936.
They go to her mother’s place of work and we are given views of some amazing artwork. John seems enticed by a kinetic sculpture. We are introduced to her mother’s receptionist-- Hilary St. George (played by Virginia Christine).
When she meets John for the first time, Hilary is taken aback. She is able to stay civil but is obviously in shock. When Joey says that she’s back in town, Hilary even asks if everything is alright. She has an obvious stutter and an ingenious yet frozen smile across her face.
She says that Joey’s mother is out for lunch. She also mentions Joey and John’s trip to Hawaii, this clears up where they came from.
They go back in the taxi and are off to her mother’s house. I would also like to note how brilliant the rear-projection effects are during the taxi scenes. Normally it’s just still footage of the background moving along behind them, but here we see the background zooming around, this achieves the effect of the car seemingly speeding down a bumpy road.
They are dropped off and John puts on a strange hat. I can’t tell if it is purposefully strange or not, but it really is weird. It seems like a straw top-hat. I thought it was quite odd.
Anyway, we are introduced to Tillie (played by Isabel Sanford). She is the housekeeper and is also African-American (like John). She is somewhat reminiscent of Hattie McDaniel’s character as a mammy in the classic film ‘Gone With the Wind’.
We also briefly see Dorothy (played by Barbara Randolph).
John asks to use a phone to call his parents and goes to the study. The door is shut and he is alone. He obviously is nervous and afraid to meet her parents.
We cut to Tillie scolding Joey for dating a black man (despite them being the same race). In this scene, Christine utters the unfortunate phrase-- “You’re just as black as he is.” She doesn’t say it in a spiteful or racist way, but more naively. As if she doesn’t know that what she said was wrong.
Christina’s mother (played by Kathrine Hepburn) comes home and is concerned for Joey since she made the spontaneous decision to come. Hilary had told her that John was back.
Joey also says that she has only known John for ten days. She seems overjoyed and excited to introduce John to her.
We cut back to John talking to his father on the phone. He also seems nervous to tell his father that she is white. (It is also revealed that he is 37 and she is 23 which is quite a big age gap). There’s a subtle comedy in John being scared to talk about Joey to his father and Joey talking in-depth about John. For different reasons, they ignore the difference in ethnicities (John out of fear, Joey out of not feeling that it is important).
Joey also reveals that John was previously married and had a son. His wife and son were both killed in a train accident.
John comes out of the study and meets Joey’s mother. Mrs. Drayton is shocked (and almost faints) at John being (in the film's words) ‘a negroe’. Still, John is able to keep his cool and somehow is still charming as ever.
Joey reveals that they met at Hawaii university when John gave a lecture. John gave this lecture because he is a certified doctor. This explains the long age gap between them.
Mrs. Drayton makes no attempt to cover her shock, unlike Hillary. No matter what Joey says, she keeps a frown frozen on her face.
Joey’s father, Mr. Drayton (played by Spencer Tracey) comes into the house. Tillie had no time to fully explain the situation, only managing to get out the fact that a ‘doctor’ was in the house with Joey.
This obviously concerns Mr. Drayton and he rushes into the room. Joey quickly cleared up the confusion, the doctor in the room was just John. Still, they didn’t fully state that John was dating Joey.
Mr. Drayton almost leaves the house again without any explanation of who John really is. However, he turns around very suddenly, and where once there was a smile is now a serious expression.
He slowly walks back over to John and stares him down before finally asking: “What the hell is going on here?”
John had to awkwardly explain the entire situation to Mr. Drayton. He also reveals that he loves Joey. He also drops a bombshell on them-- He and Joey wish to get married.
The look of shock on Joey’s parents' faces says it all. We get a more well-meaning but slightly racist talk from Joey (‘It never occurred to me that I might fall in love with a negroe!)
Her parents are shocked by just the thought of her marrying a man of color. Her father goes inside and attempts to find some dirt on John. Mrs. Drayton is more open to Joey marrying John, but her father is still against it.
John goes to Mr. and Mrs. Drayton in private. John tells them that unless they approve of the marriage he won’t marry Joey. John also says that the reason he likes Joey so much is because she doesn’t see a color difference between them. She treats him like a normal guy.
Eventually, John and Mrs. Drayton are able to talk Mr. Drayton into accepting it. We also learn that the Draytons are free-thinkers. Their expressions were more of shock than genuine racism.
Mr. Drayton is not able to find any dirt on John, but only his accolades and achievements. They even found three dollars under the phone (from John when he called his father). All of this further reinforces their acceptance of it.
We cut back to a wonderful scene with Joey and John. The actors have undeniable chemistry and bring the characters to life. The way they can bounce off of each other with quick wit makes for a classic scene.
We are treated to an interesting transitional shot. The camera is zoomed in all the way to make it seem up close to Joey and John. It then moves back very suddenly to show a silhouette right in front of it. Mr. and Mrs. Drayton is watching them.
Mrs. Drayton has tears in her eyes. I don’t think the tears are from sadness, but rather joy. Mrs. Drayton remarks that it is the happiest she has ever seen Joey. Kathrine Hepburn gives a brilliant and heartwarming monologue, remarking that she is happy for and proud of Joey.
Tillie still doesn’t approve of John and Joey’s relationship. Perhaps she feels jealous. She has been forced to be a housekeeper for years now, and now perhaps she feels that it is unfair for a person of color to be successful and with a white girl.
We cut to Mr. Drayton recalling to John a time when black people couldn't play baseball. Mr. Drayton then gets serious and tells John of the problems with his and Joey’s children. The racism they’ll have to face. However, John reassures him that times are changing.
John gets a call from his father. They plan on coming up to San Francisco that evening to meet Joey. The only problem is that they think Joey is a black girl. Joey insists on meeting John’s parents at the airport. John objects, but Joey is too insistent.
Meanwhile, Mr. Drayton begins bragging about his future son-in-law. He feels proud that John is a doctor. They have finally warmed up to them.
We then realize that the ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner moment’ is not Joey introducing John, it’s John introducing his parents. Mr. Drayton is outraged to have John’s parents in their home, but once again, Mrs. Drayton keeps him calm.
Suddenly, somebody knocks on the door. We are then introduced to Monsignor Ryan Mike (played by Cecil Kellaway) a close friend of Mr. Drayton. He seems to already like John, even saying that he admired the work of John that was in the papers. To the surprise of the Draytons, Mike doesn’t care about John’s skin color.
Hilary comes to the house as well and is shocked at the news of Joey and John soon getting married. Mrs. Drayton practically kicked Hilary out of the house and walked her back to the car.
We then see Hilary and Mrs. Crayton standing in the drive-way. Hilary is heavily against the interracial couple. Mrs. Crayton fires Hilary because of her racism and forces her to leave. This shows just how much admiration they have for John.
When Mrs. Drayton comes back and Joey is enraged at Hilary.
We cut back to Mike talking to Mr. Drayton. Drayton confesses that he feels as if the couple would not make it. Mike reassures him and leaves, but he is invited to dinner.
Mr. Drayton is still skeptical about the interracial relationship. He gets antsy and wants to go on a drive. As Mrs. Drayton tries to calm his nerves, he snaps and shouts at her. Still, she continues on.
The Drayton parents go to get ice-cream. Mr. Drayton gets a large ice-cream and Mrs. Drayton a black coffee. We then get another great monologue from Kathrine Hepburn comparing her marriage to Joey’s.
Mr. Drayton gets a new specialty flavor. At first, he is taken aback, but as he eats it he realizes that it isn’t that bad. This can be seen as a comparison to the Drayton parents’ feelings about John. At first, taken aback, but they quickly warm up to him. Mrs. Drayton is happy at Mr. Drayton’s ability to accept change (not only in the ice-cream flavor but in his acceptance of John now being part of his family.) Perhaps this is even America as a whole’s view of interracial couples. As John said, times are changing.
We cut to Tillie barging into John’s room. She snaps at him, but he stays calm and charming. He cracks jokes at her, but she is not having it. She accuses him of abusing his black power and scolds him before storming off.
We cut back to Mr. and Mrs. Drayton leaving the ice-cream place. They put their car in reverse but accidentally hit another car. The driver (a black man) begins to freak out to Mr. Drayton. He continues to shout at Mr. Drayton, causing him to run away. Funny enough, the public applauds the African-American. Unfortunately, this causes Mr. Drayton to reconsider his thoughts on black people.
The crowd's applauds showed just how quickly times were changing. Now in a situation like this, a man of color is allowed to shout at a caucasian and is applauded for it. This shows that there were many people like Joey-- Free-thinkers who would stand up for people of color against a white man (even if the black man was perhaps in the wrong).
We cut to John and Joey meeting her friends. They (like Joey) don’t care about his skin color. During this scene, John and Joey decide to leave San Francisco together that very night.
We cut to Mr. Drayton who (seemingly after the altercation) is now against John and Joey’s marriage. He plans on not giving his blessing to John. This upsets Mrs. Drayton.
She steps outside in tears and looks over at the sunset.
Meanwhile, Joey and John go to meet John’s parents (played by Roy Glenn and Beah Richards) at the airport. John is finally able to explain that Joey is caucasian. They are both speechless at the sight of her.
We cut to Mrs. Drayton trying to talk Mr. Drayton out of not giving his blessing. Once again, we got a beautiful monologue by Kathrine Hepburn.
John, Joey, and his parents all ride in the car. There is an awkward silence. Suddenly, they all talk at once, but quickly all goes silent once again. Nobody plans on breaking the ice.
Mr. Prentice is outraged that John is dating a white girl. Just like Joey’s parents, Mrs. Prentice tries to stay civil and polite.
Mike comes back to the Drayton’s house early to help with dinner. Mrs. Drayton begins to cry and confesses to Mike that Mr. Drayton will not give his blessing. He plans to embarrass John in front of Joey and his family.
Mrs. Drayton walks over to Tillie, and Tillie says that she actually agrees with Mr. Drayton.
Meanwhile, Mike attempts to talk Mr. Drayton out of it. However, he is unsuccessful.
The Prentices and Joey finally make it back home for dinner. Mrs. Drayton welcomes them in with hospitality.
Mr. Drayton finally comes down stairs to meet the Prentices and to present Mike. He remains polite and civil and makes casual small talk. Soon, however, Mr. Drayton gets serious and raises his first concern-- they are rushing it. However, he is pleased to find that Mr. Prentice agrees.
Mrs. Drayton takes Mrs. Prentice out to talk privately. The two men go to the study to talk privately themselves.
The women agree that they approve of the marriage, but that their husbands do not.
The men agree that the marriage should not happen.
Suddenly, John’s mother pulls him aside to talk to him privately, and Mrs. Drayton goes to talk to Joey in private. Mr. Prentice goes to talk his son out of the marriage. That leaves Mr. Drayton and Mrs. Prentice to talk.
They have a heartfelt conversation, both of them making compelling arguments. However, Mrs. Prentice gives an amazing speech to Mr. Drayton. It’s such a beautiful speech that it finally makes Mr. Drayton think.
Meanwhile, Mr. Prentice begins to overwhelm and berate John. At first, John took the shouting. However, he was eventually able to stand up for himself in another fantastic speech. In the speech, it’s as if John represents the new generation in America, open to change, free-thinking, and acceptance.
However, Mr. Prentice seems to represent the old era of America-- Resistance of change, bitterness to the new generation, and somewhat of an inability to accept others. Mr. Prentice thought that John owed him something just because he was his father, but in reality, John didn’t owe him anything. Mr. Prentice was simply doing what any dad should-- Provide for his son.
There’s no better way to explain it than how John does in the film-- “You [Mr. Prentice] think of yourself as a colored man, I think of myself as a man.”
Both fathers are now beginning to think about what they’ve done.
Finally, they are all in the living room, and Mr. Drayton begins to make an announcement. He breaks into a heartwarming monologue in which he gives them his blessing. They go off to dinner as “The Glory of Love” plays once again.
This movie is wonderful, but what makes it so great? Of course, the acting is brilliant and the writing is witty, but what about it really makes this ‘great’?
I think that this movie perfectly shows the battle between the new ‘hippie’ generation of the 60s’ and the older generations before it.
Everybody agrees that everything we do should be for the betterment of the world. Something that will make the future better, for ourselves, the children, and the world as a whole. This film exemplifies how important change is for people to be happy.
During the sixties, many progressive movements became huge-- Civil rights, women's rights, anti-war, etc. This film was released when the movements had reached their peak. Still, it was movements like civil rights that allowed for this film to be made at all.
On the surface, “Guess Who’s coming to Dinner” seems to be like any romantic comedy, but when you peel back the layers you are able to see what it is. A social commentary on the times. A warning to the older generations that change is inevitable and they had to accept it.
This film may not be perfect, but it is because of this film (and others like it) that we are able to have interracial marriage not viewed as taboo. It’s somewhat comedic to look back at it with (literal) 2020 perspective and see just how big of a deal they made of it.
I believe that this film is special because it had a message. It was able to say that message clearly without outright telling you it, and it allows for many other interpretations. The best way to form an opinion of it is to watch it yourself.

2020.02.28 03:17 atesme So now that the show is over... IS love blind???

What do you think? 3/5 of the couples they showed are together over a year later. That's actually pretty good odds in the dating world isn't it? And they overcame some stuff that to me were huge red flags and very real barriers. Eg. Amber's finances, GG's dramatics (still like her though), interracial dating (not a red flag, just a barrier).
BUT on the other hand, for the couples that DID fail, physical attraction definitely played a huge role.
So what did this experiment tell us? If Lachey et al. wrote a paper, what would be the conclusion?

2020.02.25 21:36 blondie-- Has anyone done research into AMWF couples?

I'm trying to write a research paper on interracial dating for my communications class, but everything is either about black and white couples or trashing Asian women with white men. Am I just looking in the wrong places, or are we really just that ignored?

2020.02.17 07:21 EB4950 Writing a research paper on interracial dating... would love some help from yall!

Hey guys!
So, after reading about the megan stallion and g eazy thing, i was super hurt to see people get online and bash them for dating. I didnt understand why it mattered to so many people that a black celebrity was getting with a white celebrity?
It made me realize that there was an misunderstanding towards interracial dating. Being that the assignment of our essay is to focus in on a specific pop culture event, and then link it to a bigger social issue, i felt like this was perfect.
I am into my paper now but am having trouble identifying WHY people feel uncomfortable with interracial dating? Ive realized that both sides have their reason... majority and minorities... but why?
Why do people, minority or majority, feel uncomfortable dating across races? What creates this stigma?
If anyone had some insight it would be greatly appreciated!

2020.02.04 06:19 OkWallaby2 boyfriend (35 M) and I (32 F) have been having issues with agreeing on getting married

(please excuse any grammatical errors as i just got off of a long shift). my boyfriend (35 M) and I (32 F) have been together for around 7 years. he moved in with me after a couple of months of dating. long story short, we live near LA and his previous landlord sold his building and he had no place to go. we were both in school at the time (he was getting his MBA while i was in the middle of my PA program). i told him before he moved into my townhome (i added him to the home deed last year under the agreement that we would get married— big mistake, i know). shortly after he moved in, he said that we would start talking about marriage. well, it’s been around 7 years now that we have been cohabitating and we haven’t gotten any headway on moving our relationship forward… except for last year which blew over because his mom said she didn’t want to see us married because we were too young (I WAS 31 AT THE TIME AND OWNED MY OWN PROPERTY!!!). two months ago, i tried to break up with him, and we did break up because he didn’t want to get married… but as you all know, i probably would not be posting this if we were no longer together (more about that in a few sentences).
long story short, we supported each other through grad school and have been there for each other for all life events (deaths, marriages of friends, new jobs, job losses, and familial conflicts). he has been my best friend through it all, but i don’t want to keep living unmarried together. and the most frustrating part was (I know this was stupid on my end) that i asked if he wanted to be on the deed for the townhouse because last year he told his parents that we were ready to get married and he said “sure, we will be married sometime anyway.” we started planning our wedding (sans engagement ring because he wanted to save up for “a really special one that matched how special i was to him) and then he backed out because he said he wasn’t ready yet (of course, after we submitted the quitclaim deed papers).
we have been seeing a therapist for 1 year now, and haven’t gotten any movement on our relationship. he has continuously told me that he’s not ready yet for marriage because he wants our relationship to be in a good spot before we get engaged and that honestly has confused me because i absolutely do not see it that way at all. he gets along with my family well and actually calls and talks to my mom just about every week, but because we are in an interracial relationship (i am Venezuelan— family came here in the early 70s and his family is White— from North-Chicago) his mom has continually brushed me off for the seven years we have been together. i have tried to build a relationship with her by sending her flowers, giving her gift cards and even tried to take her out on a dinner with just her and i last year when we went to Chicago, but she made a big fuss that she wanted to spend time with her “boy” (she has three children and he is the youngest). i get along with his two other siblings and have built really close relationships with them (his oldest sister and i call each other once a week and send each other medical memes— she’s also in healthcare). i honestly could care less about how his mom treats me, because i love him but gosh darn it, i want to start a family and move out of my townhome and into a bigger home (i was working and taking on extra shifts around our area in different urgent cares to supplement my hospital income, but stopped doing that so that we could spend more time together as he works in finance and our schedules were sometimes opposite of one another multiple days a week). and i would absolutely love to be with him forever as we make each other laugh, we have supported one another and have really cared for one another it’s just that our one point of contention is that he still after 7 years, cannot commit. after i ended it in our couples therapy session, he spent 7 hours at home begging me to take him back. i took him back under the agreement that we would work on our communication and start talking about how we plan on our futures together. well…..that was two months ago.
i have changed my work schedule and took on different shifts at the hospital so that i can be home when he’s home and have started to change how i try to communicate with him but i just feel like i am having to go through conversation after conversation to try to convince him that i am worth spending the rest of our life together. and now he’s stuck with me on a house deed, which is something that i will have to figure out on its own. and i feel like i am stuck in a continuous loop of being with someone who doesn’t really feel like he wants to actually be with me or start a family with me. WHAT DO I DO? tl;dr: boyfriend and i have been together for 7 years, and have found marriage as a point of contention. however, i want to get married and have kids, and said he's not ready yet.
Edit: thanks everyone. i really found everyone’s comments helpful and it opened my eyes. i got in contact with a lawyer to help me with reversing the deed, and am going to end it fully and finally tonight. and, you all are right, if it hasn’t happened now, it quite possibly might never happen. i will be moving forward for my own happiness. i can not tell you all how much gratitude i have for everyone’s advice.

Life isn’t easy when you’re a single college student. Especially when you’re a guy. A 21-year-old South Korean to be exact.
No, Neal struck out pretty often. I never did well at clubs, parties, or anywhere on a Florida State campus crawling with drunk coeds.
Even more frustrating was that I was reasonably handsome. I stayed in shape. My round face accentuated by a small nose and light complexion. Perfect to go along with my spiked black hair… With the boom of K-pop, I figured I’d be causing a mass hysteria like The Beatles. At the very least, I thought I’d get a cute girlfriend!
But that wasn’t the case. No, I stayed alone in my dorm most of the time. With no friends. Nothing but electricity for company. Fictional friends in the form of binge-watched shows. Or long-distance friends on the Xbox One. And then, of course, there were the intangible teases on the dating apps.
I was no Casanova. Nor did I have the best pick-up lines… but I did okay on the usual apps and sites like Tinder, MeetMe, Bumble. At least girls would talk to me. Sometimes we’d sext. But of course, we’d never meet. Neal was just good enough for a distraction. A hot Asian novelty. But real sex and real relationships continued to be a mirage...
This December night was no different. Finals were almost over. Here we were on a Thursday night with Christmas close by. The perfect time for a young man like me to bond with attractive friends… But that wasn’t happening.
Isolated in my dorm, I sat at the computer. A half-ass final paper on screen. My iPhone in hand. A couple of FourLokos by my feet.
I was out with my “friends,” alright. The flatscreen played Dexter. And there were all these amazing girls eager to meet me on Bumble…
I gotta say tonight was slow. I got no interesting matches. Drunk and frustrated, I went into emergency mode… In search of a fresh, new dating app.
Shivering in the cold, I stole a glance at my closed dorm door. No one was walking through there anytime soon...
And then on my phone, I found it: a brand new dating app with a four star rating. EatYourHeartOut Yet another MeetMe knock-off… and to my relief, this one was free.
Bots be damned, I downloaded the fucker. Like an explorer discovering a new world, I felt rare excitement. Lost in the promise of new faces and creepy losers.
The stupid main menu screen came on. An interracial couple wining and dining at some fancy restaurant. The subliminal message was clear: THIS COULD BE YOU, LOSER Or maybe the app was just delivering us a deserved taunt.
I cringed in the cold. The app’s aesthetic and design stuck in the style of 1990s dating websites.
“Aw, shit…” my deep voice muttered. But I gave in to the loneliness and made an account.
Almost immediately, a notification box popped up: Allow “EatYourHeartOut” to access your location while you are using the app?
Of course, I hit yes. Standard stuff for these sorts of shitshows.
Before I could even scout the scene, I had to make a brief bio. Upload the requisite photos. Slog through the validation process as if I were undergoing a medical exam. Aside from questions asking if I were sweet or sour or if I was tough or soft, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Just the usual cringy questionnaire.
And then finally, my profile was complete.
My phone jolted to life. Over and over. Notifications poured in. Rather than excitement, I felt disappointed. Gotta be bots, I figured. Not even the ugly girls were desperately waiting on new members.
I clicked on my profile pic. The shirtless photo was now getting countless likes. Countless comments.
Intrigued, I scrolled through them. And in the chilling loneliness, I became unnerved. The more I read, the more my horror increased.
Women and men were commenting. All different races and ages.
He looks yummy! a middle-aged dad said. Good enough to eat ;) replied an elderly woman. Can’t wait to cut into that ass! exclaimed an exuberant soccer mom.
Battling the unease, I looked around the dorm. For once, I was glad to be alone… My prison now a fortress from these weirdos.
Another vibration pulled me back to the app. Looks like we’re having Chinese tonight1! said a bearded country guy.
Angry, I replied to him: I’m Korean, asshole!
More comments arrived. Young and tasty!!!! The smoother the skin, the better the meat. He gonna taste good once I get done with him lolz I’ll sure eat his heart out!!1
My eyes darted to the corner of the screen. To EatYourHeartOut’s obnoxious title. Lettering reserved for a diner’s neon sign. One that was open all night…
“This is fucking crazy…” I said through the terror.
I got ready to delete the damn thing. Until a new comment caught my eye. Accelerated my unease. I’m on the way for you! said a muscular man.
“What!” I shouted.
Panicking, I went to the locals page. There my profile pic stood in the center of the singles sea. The middle of this menu.
A smaller caption under my pic read: 10 miles away, FSU Campus. Azalea Hall, Room 17
My location.
Trembling, I went to my messages. For once, the flooded inbox gave me fear rather than excitement. An army of messages from so many profiles: On the way, sweetie!!! I’m hungry and thirsty... Can't wait to m(eat) you ;)
“Oh shit!” I said, scared beyond belief.
A brutal knock hit my door. Slowed by dread, I turned to face it.
Several other knocks pounded it at once.
